Miami to Nassau - Bahamas cruise - And free time in Nassau

Hello,

I am looking at a cruise in 2012 from Miami to Nassau (Bahamas).

I am looking at a 3 day cruise with either Carnival or Royal Caribbean.

(I have been on the websites and find them confusing)

I have 4 questions please:

1- Is there another cruise company i should look at? (other than discovery)

2- With any company, can you spend the day in Nassau every day, and sleep on the cruise liner at night? In other words, do you have free time in Nassau every day?

3- Is it possible to go on a ferry and see another island one of the days? If so, which island in the Bahamas did you see that you loved? And is the weather generally okay in July in the Bahamas?

4-If I am looking for three days of free time in Nassau, is it better to take a flight from Miami to Nassau and find accomodation?

I would like free time, and would be using the cruise as accomodation and transport from miami to nassau (so it does not have to be a beautiful cruise liner)

Please, please message me back.

I thank you for your time and your help.

Have you tried NCL?

We did this cruise on their Norwegian Sky, 3 days Bahamas. It was perfect!

Yes you do have free time in Nassau, depending on ship's schedule. There is nothing special in the port so I'd suggest you plan something else.

There is Paradise Island, connected with a Bridge with Nassau, about 6-8 dollars per person, taxi. Most people go there because that's where Atlantis is. Very pricey!

Cruise ships usually spend only a day in Nassau, the next day they are on another island or often in Freeport.

Hope this helps!

Oh, thank you.

So on the cruises you stay ON the cruise liner the whole time?

And they let you OFF for 12 hours or so?

Do the cruise liners cruise around the other islands? So you can see them? And get OFF at one or two?

Which islands did you go to?

Thank you for your help...

Also, do you have to go to Atlantis on Paradise Island or can you go to the beach or have a look at the shops?

So the company is NCL?

Thank you

You have posted so many questions on this subject its beginning to look like SPAM

If you do go to Nassau DO NOT waste your time going to Atlantis on Paradise Island - its vast noisy and very much like Vegas

Why not fly down to Nassau if you want to spend time there ? (oh the shops there are not great -but the straw market is worth a look )

No, you don't have to stay on the ship when ship is in port. It's your choice. But they don't stay entire time in Nassau either. You will have to see the schedule of your cruise.

As someone suggested, Paradise Island is not really the best excursion but certainly is a place a largest percentage of cruise passengers go to.

NCL is just one of the options (companies) that does this type of cruise. Carnival and Royal too. I have heard many poor comments about Discovery and their ships is very old, smart that you want to avoid them.
