Where to stay post-cruise?

Where would you recommend we stay for a couple of nights after our cruise out of Miami ? Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Keys, Naples?

We are a family with two teenagers and an 8 yr old.

Depends on what you're looking for or like...and where you will be flying out of (Miami?)

Thanks for your recommendations. We are really looking for a safe and beautiful family orientated place to stay within a short drive of Miami, where we are flying out of, Been to Orlando many times but never been to Miami area so just looking for a bit of advice from people who have visited there and of course locals. Resort accomodation or near the beach would be great but willing to look at different options. It will be at a weekend so that may make it a bit more expensive.

Not sure what you mean by a 'short' drive -

If you mean 'within an hour's drive', you're pretty much limited to the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas.

At least 1-2 hours to get to the Keys and 2-2.5 to get to Naples

In Ft. Lauderdale, there's the Best Western Pelican Beach Resort for consideration. It's got very good reviews.

There're also, I understand, several family oreinted hotels in Sunny Isles Beach - north of Miami Beach.

I'm sure you'll get more specifics from others in the very near future.

Is Naples worth the drive? Willing to drive the extra few miles if it is worthwhile. From what I have read Naples seems upscale.

Personally, I think you'd be 'pushing it', so to speak, by going to Naples but, then again, why not?!

I like Naples and you can start researching that area at:

tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g34467-Naples_Florid…

Yes, it's upscale ($$$) and generally the population is 'older' -

For your return drive, just make sure you allow more than enough time to make your flight.

Highway services along I-75 (Alligator Alley) running across the Florida Everglades between Naples and Ft. Lauderdale are few and far between.

Good luck!

lassie-I don't think your teen agers would enjoy Naples. Lots of retired folks there. May I suggest Key Biscayne. It is just a few miles from Miami Beach. It is very family friendly and part of the island is a no commercialism zone. very pretty. Some very nice resorts on the beach. I think we stayed at Sonesta both times. It wouldn't be far from the cruise ship area.

Miami Beach runs in with Miami but is a seperate city and I think you would be happier and safer in Miami Beach or one of the above posters suggestions.

Miami Beach is an island across Biscayne Bay from Miami. It is 10 miles long and 1 to 3 miles wide. It is connected by 4 main causeways. If you look at a map, Key Biscayneis the little dot next to Miami Beach.

Lots of great shopping in Miami Beach, many good restaurants and of course South Beach.

Safe travel and good weather to you!
