First time in October

My husband and I are going to stay here for our first time ever. We live in California. What do you suggest we do? We'll be there Friday evening through Monday morning. Is snorkeling safe there? We lov the water. How far are the Everglades from there? Should we do a swamp boat ride? Thanks!

The water at Marco is very safe.Very warm in summer, it tends to cool down late October. You will find plenty to fill your time there. The Everglades are an easy drive, about 40 minutes. Also you might like a dolphin watching trip, or shelling where you will visit a sand bar, or deserted island. There is a jetski tour of the Ten Thousand Islands which is very popular, and goes from the Marriott. The beach and pools at the Marriott are a delight. If you Google The Marco Review it will give you many ideas

Marco Island is right on the Everglades doorstep...you are minutes away.

Don't bother snorkling unless you like looking at sandy bottoms. That's one thing that Marco is not good for.

OK everyone - we're back from our trip. We love Marco Island and will definitely go back again! We did an airboat trip in the Everglades and that was a lot of fun. Other than that, we spent most of our time swimming in the ocean and the pool, which we loved very much! We ate most of our meals at the resort, but did manage to eat lunch at the Snook Inn. Good food, atmosphere, live music and enjoyed eating outside at the chickee bar. The sunsets were perfect every night. First class!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. :) Go Giants!

Hi there, we are going to Marco Island in January. What airboat tour did you take? I am having a hard time deciding and would love your input...

Funny story - there were so many airboat tour companies; we ended up going to the wrong one. We followed our GPS to the correct street, but ended up parking at the first one we saw, instead of looking at the sign. Ugg. ;-) I would recommend Captain Doug's Everglades tour (http://www.captaindougs.net/). They are right next door to the one that we took (by accident - http://jungleervairboatworld.com/). The reason why we chose Captain Doug's is: they have more boats, I saw more people waiting in line for their tours there, better rating, and they are supposed to give a nice history of the area while you're on the tour. Our guy didn't say too much except point out the wildlife. To be honest, you have to wear ear muffs, so you probably wouldn't hear too much anyways. It just would have been nice to hear more of the history. The one thing that we really liked about Jungle Erv's was that we got to see beautiful birds (parrots that speak and we held a cockatoo), got to take a walk along a boardwalk where we saw live gators, and the best part was that we got our picture taken with a baby gator. Doug's might offer that also, so make sure you check first.
