Hilton Closes

According to the Longboat Observer, the Hilton closed its doors today in preparation for a total renovation and expansion. The upgrade will take 14 to 16 months to complete. It will include upgrades to all 102 existing rooms plus the construction of a tower with 85 additional rooms. The new property will be known as Gulfside Beach Resort. All of the necessary permits have apparently been approved.

Should be about ready by the time we hope to be on Longboat next year then. If other Hilton accommodation is anything to go by it should be worth the wait. Probably pricey though.

It will be interesting to see. I'm not sure if it will indeed return as a Hilton. The property is actually owned by Ocean Properties, a huge company that develops and manages 100+ hotels under the Hilton, Marriott, Starwood, Intercontinental and other names. Another property in which they are involved locally is the Longboat Key Club which they purchased in October 2012. Recently they were also seeking to by the defunct Colony Beach on Longboat but were outbid for that property.
