Longboat Key Beach erosion

Just saw an article in the Longboat Key News lamenting the erosion of the beaches on the south end of Longboat Key. Full time residents are voicing their fear the beaches are close to or about to encroach on their property.

Has anyone seen the beaches on the south end of the island and is the erosion really a problem (for instance severe drop offs at waters edge, water nearing the wild areas in front of the condos, etc)

There is a proposed plan to dredge sand from Big Pass and renourish the Longboat beaches.

Needless to say, there are people who are against this idea.

Some renourishment has just begun at the North end of Longboat, up near Beer Can Island. That took several years of clearances to begin, so nothing is likely right now elsewhere on the Key. I didn't see the article in the LBKNews and don't visit the south end of the Key often, so I can't help you there. Mid-Key and up is in very good shape except for the small area at the very North end which always seems to get eroded.
