snorkeling off a boat with a sea ramp?

We will only be in KW for one day and would like to snorkel. There does not seem to be enough time do to Dry Tortugas and walk in off the beach does not sound like a promising experience. Because we will be travelling with people who have difficulties with mobility but enjoy snorkeling, what excursion companies have boats with easy access via sea ramps?? Thank you for sharing your expertise...

Most of the larger catamarans have the "stairway to the sea." The steps are flat, parallel to the deck, when the cat is sailing/motoring to the reef or snorkle site. The steps then are lowered to provide easy access to the water. It is less threatening to enter the water this way than to jump off the side of the boat, although jumping gets the job done more quickly :).

So, the majors catamarans are Sebago, Fury, Sunny Days, Stars and Stripes. Danger Charters doesn't use catamarans, and therefore does not have the stairway, but they do employ a platform on one side of the sailboat for easier water access, and they really have a great snorkle trip.

Good luck!

IMO The two Fury's - the Atlantic and Pacific - have slightly larger ramps. Plus these boats are so big that you would not have to pre-book. Just go over there (past the Hilton docks, not the Key West Bight) or find a "Bob-inb-a-box" one of the street vendors in a small kyosk, and book through them. This will probably save you some money, too.
