Thanks UNCMickey for making an exception for the "worthiness" of mine :) lol
I think TripAdvisor posted the lists formerly named GoLIsts in this manner precisely because the ones they have are old and most range from somewhat lacking in value to extremely lacking in value. I think they had hopes that once people knew they could write them that they would receive new and better posts to perhaps replace the ones listed presently. So far that has not happened. No new ones have been written since these were posted. TripAdvisor has even held contests with prizes on occasion for writing the best GoList. I don't know what success they had nationwide with the contests, but they didn't result in any new Key West lists.
The lists are hard to write precisely because of their format. They must be in list form rather than written in a more literary style. They do lend themselves readily to best of and worse of lists or lists of things to do, but they are still somewhat limiting. And, as has been stated, the people who decided to write them too often have been people who didn't have much to offer in the way of worthy advice.
The GoLists have pretty much given way to Travel Articles. My problem with travel articles though is also a format rule. They must be written in a professional travel guide style with no use of personal pronouns or in terms that TripAdvisor feels are better suited to a review. I like to write in a more personal style telling my personal experiences, likes and dislikes, tastes, etc., but that is not allowed in the Travel Articles.
