First - Thanks to all of you for your insight and information. We experienced so much more because of you. We (myself, husb, 16yo daughter and my mother) had a fantastic time, beautiful weather and met the best people ever!
Sat - Arrival to the keys after 2 days of driving from Huntsville. Stopped at Robbie's to feed the tarpon. They are huge! Watch out for the fish stealing gulls! They swooped down and took one right from husb's hand! Next, checked in to condo at 1800 Atlantic. Nice unit, 1st floor, partial water view, very clean, awesome pool and hot tub on ocean. Would stay there again, but now realize we really love the historic seaport area and will stay closer next time. After check in, had to make the obligatory visit to Margaritaville. husb had the Cheeseburger in Paradise (no complaints), everyone else had salads. I agree with most everyone - not the best margarita's.
Sun - Photos at Southernmost Point. Hit Duval for shopping, had a drink at the Hogsbreath, and my first Mojito ever. YUM! Picked up pastries at Croissants de France for breakfast and headed back to condo. It's funny what a small world it really is-some people from Huntsville were also staying at the same complex! We hung out at the pool and hot tub the rest of the day. Very relaxing. Went to Mallory Sq for sunset celebration. That was alot of fun, saw the unicycle juggler guy and the Great Rondini, who was very entertaining. Plus, what a beautiful sunset.
Monday- Had to get some Kino's. LOVE them. We went back for more later in the week! There is jewelry store next to Kino's with the nicest owners and the cutest little dog "Lulu" that trots up and down the jewelry cases. Toured the Mel Fisher museum. Had a fun and informative day. Grilled out by the pool. Again, relaxed in hot tub.
Tuesday- I PARASAILED!! My daughter and I walked over to Smather's Beach and parasailed with Sunset. Great experience. We had a blast. That was a big thing for me. Headed back to Duval for more shopping. Ended up at the White Tarpon - All I can say is "Key Lime Pie Martini" Nuff said. Bartender Chris was excellent - even hooked husb up with info about the Crimestoppers 5k on July 4. Next, headed over to the Schooner Wharf Bar for a famous Dark and Stormy. I had no idea what it would be like, but I really, really like it. We met some great folks and their dogs there. I love it that animals are such a big part of KW life. Picked up a Key Lime pie from Blonde Giraffe to take home. Ended the day with with dinner at Conch Republic. Good meal, but no royal reds. Another great day.
Wednesday - Had a snorkel/tour scheduled with Strike Zone. We called to confirm only to find out they cancelled. The other family had cancelled. We decided to spend the afternoon at Bahia Honda. It is so beautiful - we had a wonderful day on the beach. Had dinner at Hogfish - really good!
Later went to White Tarpon for my Key Lime Pie Martini and then headed to SWB to listen to music.
Thursday - Again headed to Duval. (anyone seeing a pattern?) Later headed to Hog's Breath for the 4pm get together. It was so much fun to meet everyone! KWT - I realized after we left that I didn't make it over to talk to you! I hope we can visit next time. Key Limey, Seabus, Magic Tim, Summerbreeze, SusieQ, Jaywepp, Tim the Pirate, Ecsmom, I enjoyed meeting and visiting with you all and anyone else I can't recall. Thanks Jaywepp for setting it up. We loved Scott Kirby and bought a CD. It was nice cruising music on the way home! We left the gathering for dinner across the street at Two Friends. One of our most enjoyable meals and great service. We met up with our Huntsville neighbors and took them to White Tarpon and SWB where we had a fun evening with more great music.
Fiday - Started the day with the Crimestoppers 5k race. I watched, husb ran - for a great cause. Later we headed out for our daily trip to Duval! Then picked up cuban sandwiches from Jose's on White St. Very good, maybe not the best, but it was on our way home. I was not leaving KW without trying some royal reds, so we headed to Fishbusterz. We pickup up a pound of reds, and also some fresh grouper to grill by the pool. We spend the evening out grilling and socializing, then headed to our unit to watch the fireworks from out balcony! A great way to end our week in KW. BTW - the royal reds are amazing!
Saturday - Headed for home. Stopped again at Fishbusterz for fresh shrimp to bring home. Stopped at Baby's for coffee. Stopped at Alabama Jack's for a couple of T-shirts. It was so sad to leave the keys.
Even though we had a week, we still didn't get to experience everything we wanted: The Good Life, Shrimp Shack (and we were RIGHT THERE! no time), Blue Heaven, Irish Kevin's always looked a great place to hang out, snorkeling, dry tortugas, Ft Zach, Grand Vin. The list goes on and on. I know, it means we will be back!
Thanks again.
