 Funny Tourist questions

BK's story makes me think of some of the stuff I've heard in the last years, and we locals have heard a lot! Please post the most rediculous question or statement you've heard.....

the ones that come to mind are:

Where's this Shuffley Joe?

Does the water go all the way around the island?

When's the next sunset, we missed the first one...

Do they take American money?

I use to get the "does the water go all the way around the island a lot" when I worked for one of the hotels on the water.

Along the same lines, as people were watching the sunset from their table they would ask "Where does it set?" They would ask this when the sun was 2 minutes from "hitting" the water. One server told them that as soon as it "hits" the water, it jumps up and moves to the other side.

Another one was "what happened to the bridge that connected KW with Cuba?" The guy swore he had seen it and thought I was totally mistaken when I said there never was one.

What part of Florida is this island connected to?

Where is the volacano that started the island?

Can you swim under the island?

1. How long is Seven Mile Bridge?

2. Is Jimmy Buffet playing at Margaritaville tonight?

3. Can you snorkel under the island?

4. Do you need a passport to visit the Conch Republic?

5. Does the sun always set on this side of the island?

6. It says sunset is at 8. We have dinner reservations then. Is there a later one?

To a bartender or server-"Do you live here?"

"What keeps the island attached to the bottom?"

"Which way is the ocean?"

"How far is it between mile markers?"

btw, the 7 mile bridge is actually 6.92 miles (as personally measured with a GPS), but "The six and ninety-two hundredths mile bridge" was too long for the little green sign.

I met a gal once who worked at the welcome center in Big Pine.

She said that a daily question there was "how long till we get to the Keys?"

Please tell me you guys are making up the question about the sunset.

The most common ones I hear up here:

Is there anything to do here?

How much farther to the Keys?

Are there sharks in the water?

I was on a charter one time and the mate said he no longer points out flying fish.

Too many people would look skyward and say "where I don't see it"

Oh yes. My favorite.

"Are their sharks in the water?"

On Danger Charters I hear this question - honestly - once every three trips.

I reply by way of explanation that...

"We have a very proactive Chamber of Commerce which has an agreement with all of the sharks. They ARE permitted in the water but ONLY between the agreed upon hours of 11PM and 6 AM."

I love this question! "Are there sharks in the water?" ROFL!
