My friends and I went to a wedding in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend and we saw an advertisement in a local magazine for "Ecomotion Tours - Island Explorations on Segways".

We had to check it out. Having always wanted to ride a segway this was the perfect opportunity - and what an amazing experience we had! Maren and Greg Arnett are the owners of the company and run a great operation. Each 2 hour tour can accomodate eight guests and two tour guides - Greg up front leading the way, and Maren in the back making sure everyone is moving along.

They started with an orientation and lesson on how to operate the Segway, allowed us to practice, and stayed with us until we were comfortable using them (which took just a couple of minutes!). They also provided us with a great headset (that attached easily over one ear), which allowed us to hear Greg's commentary as we explored the trails of Fort George Island. Both Greg and Maren are extremely knowledgeable about the ecosystem and the history of this beautiful island and were happy to keep us informed as we traversed the various trails and visited the Kingsley Plantation. The fauna and flora were amazing- we were lucky enough to see a couple of armadillos and a 10 foot alligator who lives in one of the ponds!

I highly recommend this tour for young and old alike. Maren and Greg are terrific hosts, make you feel at ease and do everything they can to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone!

If you're in the area, check it out, you won't be disappointed. My only disappointment is that I had to fly back to NY today and did not have enough time to take the Segway tour on Little Talbot Island. I have something to look forward to on my next visit.

Thanks Maren and Greg!

The Segways are great fun. My husband and I tried it first in Florida at The Planation on Amelia Island, then last spring on a trip to D.C. did a downtown tour. Rather amazing to be zooming along on the sidewalk with the shakers and movers and their briefcases.....It was a great way to see the sights and have a lot of fun! Nancy & Rick

We agree 100%!!! My boyfriend and I took this tour just last week and Greg is a great guide and host. He made us feel extremely at ease with the Segways. We can't wait to go again!!!

Where is Fort George Island in relation to Amelia Island? How about Little Talbot Island?

This sounds like a great tour. Could you tell me how much these tours cost?

THANK YOU!

North to south it goes: Amelia Island, Big Talbot Island, Little Talbot Island, Ft. George Island. From downtown Fernandina, it's about 45 minutes to the Segway tour and about 30 minutes from Amelia Island Plantation. The website for information is www.ecomotiontours.com . I'll echo the applauseof the prior posters - it's a great tour.

Shag,

Thanks for the report on the Segway tours. My wife and I won gift certificates for one of their tours at a recent charity event and can't wait to tour Ft. George by Segway.

Thanks again!

Any comments about the segway tours at Fort George Island? We will be in the area in Feb. and this sounds really interesting.

Hello Cepaitis,

Definitely check out the segway tour run by Greg and Maren - it's an amazing experience and should not be missed.

My friends and I still reminisce about what a great time we had that day.

Have fun! If you do the tour, check back and let us know how you liked it. You won't be disappointed.

We recommend the morning tour (10a-12p) because it's longer and you get to see so much more. That's the one that most of our guests go on. If you've only got time for the one-hour in the afternoon don't worry, you'll still enjoy it.
