Questions - Indian Rocks Beach for Families

Hello, Looking at planning weeks vacation in April for two families (children 5 - 8 yoa)...is this a safe, quiet, relaxing place...were tired of theme parks!

1. What is average air and water temps in April?

2. Is beach soft sand or are there shells to find?

3. Looking for places to stay $1000 for week to acommodate all of us...is the main road safe to cross on regular basis or a little too busy...would definitely prefer beach side of coarse?

Any opionion/thoughts on the area are most appreciated..including nice restaurants for adults.

Thanks in Advance!

Look at Park Circle B&B (www.parkcircle.com). It's in North Redington Beach, which is right next to Indian Rocks Beach--you pass from one to the other withing knowing it. It's a collection of old-Florida bungalows that have been rehabbed and look wonderful. It has a pool and is gated. It's across the street from the beach and therefore is more affordable. Breakfast is included. I've never stayed at Park Circle, but have stayed in the area numerous times, and I think it has what you're looking for. Gulf Blvd may be tricky crossing at certain times of the day, but doable--just be careful.

It is a safe area. It is a quieter, slower paced area, than Clearwater Beach to the North, and St. Pete Beach to the South. IRB will be very relaxing compared to theme parks! To widen your search, there are several other small beach communities along this strech of beach between CB and SPB, that are all the same, slower, quieter areas. This will include Indian Shores, Redington Beach, and North Redington. But, with this comes having to drive to get any variety of restaurants etc, that you could walk to at CB or SPB.

1) Air will normally be in the low-mid 80's, lows maybe low 70's. Water, mid 70's. Low rain chance. Great time of year.

2) Nice beach, not as soft and white as Clearwater Beach, but nice sandy beach. There are shells that come up. Head out early, or during an out-going tide to see what the last high tide brought up.

3) I'm not really familiar with any condos in the area. Check www.vrbo.com . Beach side would be the way to go. You would probably pay more than accross the street, but for a beachy vacation, it would be best. The main street all along the coast between CB and SPB is Gulf Blvd. Through IRB it is mainly 2 lane, and pretty slow moving. It does get to 4 lanes in some areas, but, for the most part, is safe to cross, using the same sense as crossing any street anywhere.

In IRB, Crabby Bill's is a goof, fun seafood restaurant. A little further South, in Indian Shores is The Pub.

A few things the kids might like in Clearwater Beach, just about a 15 minute drive from IRB.

Best small family properties are in IRB,and you can walk or bike to eating establishments. Park Circle is nice but you must cross Very Busy Gulf Blvd to get to the beach. Gulfside Resorts has the highest rating for small properties in IRB, see their reviews on this page under specialty lodging.
