Do we have to worry about this much in Hollywood? i.e., walking to/fro the Boardwalk/Diplomat at 10 or 11 at night?

Thanks guys, I don't know what I'd do without you!!

Well...the Boardwalk doesn't extend as far as the Diplomat Beachfront anymore....there are a lot of high rise condos put 'thoughlessly' in the sand on the beach in that area. (Onlt thoughtless for those who can't use it tthere.

Anyway, the boardwalk is open to the public. I don't think it is unsafe, but stuff can happen. Most I've ever seen was folks need help walking home.....they bent their arm too much...but I haven't even seen that larely.

Remember, Fl is warm...all the time....and there are homeless that attempt to make that climate their 'home'. (not so dumb)...and I've seen some in the past in the Young Circle area....there was a church that fed and kept them...but I think it moved further north.

From the Diplomat, the B'walk starts in the Flower section...ie- where the street names are flowers, not Presidents. I would guess about 5 blocks N of the Diplomat....but that section is also conprised of small apartment hotels, a few still quite damaged by the last storms.

I know you will be walking...but don't know your abilities. There are dozens of bike rentals places, btw....but not like HHI...where you could rent a bike for a week for $30.00...here they are a bit more greedy, I mean pricey.

A lot of people...even elderly...do walk & jog the B'walk in the AM from the S beginning some all the way to Sheridan Street, and back. (It continues almost to Marthas where Dania Beach Blvd is...but isn't ocean view in that area). They may wear bathing suits, as well. I see several elderly men swim along the shore for 6 or 7 blocks, then return...of course the life guards do this much further out.

Walk N from the Diplomat (if you can pass the construction) and past the Residences. I think the next block will start the B'walk. You should try to walk past the Hollywood BEach Resort, (Ramada) and head toward GArfield Street (this will cause you to pass Johnson Street....and the small restaurants line this area. Still can get a pitcher (soda or beer) and a large tomato pizza for $14.00.....(several places) or a grouper or Mia Mia sandwich at Nicks for less than $9.00. Great place IMO to walk in the AM toward noon...see if the senoirs are playing at the park on GArfield...see if Wally will loan you (ok rent) a paddle for the paddle ball/hand ball courts.

Angelos and Broadway Pizza are good.

Warning....this Broadwalk is not at all like Point PLeasant or Wildwood NJ. THere are no rides, no games of chance...bu t there are a lot of small shops (like tee shirt stores....a WINGS in on Johnson and A1A (a block from the bandstand)...no...not like in Ocean City Belmar, Avon by the Sea....but free when the city has a program.

I don't know if you are going to have enough time to do all this stuff....did you check about the www.watertaxi.com trip to South Beach on tuesday from the Diplomat?

PS....You can safely walk on the B'walk to 11 PM...BUT....I don't know how easily it would be to walk back to the Dip Hotel....not sure if all he sidewalks are intact.

Hi KenK,

I really, really dont know what we'd do without you. We were originally concerned that we might have to cancel our trip for lack of things to do, but I'm glad you've pointed these things out. We got a really really great deal on the Diplomat so we're looking forward to it.

I think we'll do the water taxi during the day on Tuesday and then head to Ohara's on Tuesday night. The reason I asked about the safety was that I noticed theres free concerts on the boardwalk on Mondays so I thought maybe Monday night we could head out there.

Thanks again!

Call & make sure they are going on Tuesday.

We are heading back to NJ . Stopped for a few days in Orlando...Marriott Cypress Harbour...very nice...

I hope the trip goes well. What I really like is the beach. Older now, its a bit harder in the NJ surf...its rougher...and usually the surf in SE & W Fl is pretty tame...and warm....(I said USUALLY)

Bring camera...the water will probably look like the Tropics....

HAve limited Internet access next few days
