pre and post cruise hotel

I am needing a pre and post cruise hotel. We, a family of 5, have a day to kill post cruise so wanted something closer to some attractions. A property that offered shuttle to the pier would also be a bonus! any suggestions?

There are dozens of hotels within 5-15 minutes south of the port, mostly along or near highway A1A in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. Many of these hotels are right on the beach.

Most offer shuttle service to/from the port, either free or for a small per person fee. A few also offer shuttle service to/from Orlando Airport as part of a package deal.

Some of the nicer standard hotels in the area are the Radisson (very near the port but not on the beach), the Holiday Inn Express (about 2 blocks off the beach), the Sheraton Four Points (about a block off the beach), and the following right on the beach: La Quinta Suites Oceanside, Doubletree, Marriott Courtyard, Hampton Inn, and the Hilton. Slightly lower in quality are the Best Western and the International Palms. There are many more, including the Inn at Cocoa Beach, which is nice but more for adults.

We have used the Hampton Inn pre-cruise, and it has a few family rooms designed for 5. The Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort also has a nice pool area, some rooms on the beach, and rooms with multiple bedrooms and kitchens, but it is a bit isolated from the main tourist areas. In that same multiple-bedroom category are the Discovery Beach Resort, and the Resort on Cocoa Beach, both well-located.

There is a bus service that operates a "trolley" up and down highway A1A, so it is easy to get around without a car. To get to the Kennedy Space Center, a car is advantageous, but the drive is a short 20 minutes.

The beach is fun in itself, but it is especially interesting to watch the surfers around the Cocoa Beach Pier. Between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. most days, the big cruise ships (including Disney) sail past the outdoor restaurants on Glen Cheek Drive, so you can wave goodbye to the passengers that follow you on the boats. There are airboat rides, boat rides, surfing lessons, kayak tours, Segway rides, and the Brevard Zoo. The flagship store of the famous Ron Jon chain is right in Cocoa Beach, and is open 24 hours a day. Although not for kids, there is also a gambling casino boat that sails out twice a day (once on Sunday) for 5-hour cruises.

This IS great info. Can we get the trolley from/ near the Hilton? What family-friendly restaurants can you point out?

Thanks!!!

Yes, the beach "trolley", or route 9, runs right in front of the Hilton on highway A1A, both northbound and southbound. The Hilton's parking lot is huge, and you do have to walk through it to get out to the road, less than a five-minute walk.

Sorry about the late reply, I've been out in Las Vegas for the past few days.

we ended up booking at the Hilton Oceanfront, but it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I'd stay somewhere closer to the Holiday Inn Express or the Grand Sheraton. There are some grocery stores and shops that are walkable. (I reviewed the Hilton Oceanfront separately).

You might try the Hampton Inn, but I think that others may have the same program.
