Bernards is by far the best fine dining in the area, in the top five outside of NYC. Gails Station House is nice for breakfast or a sandwich at lunch. On rt 7 in ridgefield is a wonderful indian restaurant called, Thali, very good but very expensive for this area. Spagones is a good italian restaurant. The 2 best delis are Genoa's (across from Kohls) and the one next to Dunkin Donuts ( i forget the name) . Pizza is best at Village Pizza, Piccolo's avoid Planet Pizza on Main street ( this is CT pizza). Southwest cafe is decent soutwestern mexican food, the Elms tavern has very good american food, mannen has decent sushi and chinese food. The newest japanese place is called Koo, very good food but not worth the aggravating service, loud noise and very very expensive prices. Lucs is a nice french cafe but avoid the other restaurant "La Saliere" this place is terrible. Thanks Ridgefield's hightlights!!! |

Thanks for the info about Thali. I was surfing the web trying to find out about it. Might try it. BTW, in case you're not from the area, Gails Station House recently burned down, as did the pharmacy, Bissells, next to it. Also, thanks for the info about La Saliere. We had a terrible time when we went there, I thought it might just have been a one-time situation. I did hear that Luc's, was nice. Thanks for the information.

Lucs is a very good French restaurant in town and as a resident of Ridgefield, I can vouch for its quality (great salads !!!). And the Elm's is good esp. the summer dining on their patio (banger and mash has to be one of the best around !). For CT standard, Thali (they have another one in New Canaan) is good. For South East Asian (mind you, NOT CHINESE) taste, do try Wild Ginger and the new Thai Restaurant where Spagone used to be. It is quite authentic (except they do tone down the spicyness unless you specifically request that they dont). Manen is pretty not a real Sushi place (run by Chinese) and sushi is just so-so (their ramen has to be one of the worse I ever had). A better place, try Kampei in Stamford (even though still Chinese own, but their standards and quality are way better). Koo's neo-Japanese cuisine is way over priced and food is average. They had a change of chef just less than a month of opening (their main claim to charge such prices in the first place was their celebrity chef from NYC but he quit ! The replacement is nowhere close !!!). Definitely a rowdy place, not welcoming to families with young kids at all. I love Gail's and cant wait for it to reopen. Shame it burned down but the building did need some work. Spagone is definitely the leader in Italian cuisine in town even if their prices had gone up. Their sommelier is very knowledgable about wine. Enjoy your dining !

La Saliere has the best food in town!! I dont know what you were smoking when you wrote that it is 'terrible.' I lived in France for 10 years and as far as I am concerned I cannot even tell the difference. Perhaps you were too intoxicated to realize that you were eating at Luc's, with the terrible food, and that La Saliere is superior.

>> For South East Asian (mind you, NOT CHINESE) taste, do try Wild Ginger and the new Thai Restaurant where Spagone used to be. It is quite authentic... << What type(s) of SE Asian? How does the Thai place compare to Papaya Thai in S. Norwalk?

Here's the website for Ching's Restaurants, which owns Wild Ginger, as well as a couple of others. We've enjoyed Wild Ginger many times. It expanded not to long ago, but it's still a bit tight. But I recommend it!

Still need the URL. | ||||||

Woops, sorry. I hit send too early. Here it is http://www.chingsrestaurant.com/

We also enjoy both Luc's and la Saliere. Maybe we got lucky. We also like bailey's Backyard on Bailey St.
