Places to stay in Winter Park

My family (grown children) and I are going dog sledding in Winter Park in February. Would like recommendations where to stay or if we even should stay the night there? We will not be skiing.

Thank you!

The Iron Horse Resort is one option

We stayed many years ago in the summer season and enjoyed our stay and liked the location. The reviews that are current are above and the website to check out.

The above lodging map may help with your decision. Alli, one of our skiing experts likes High Country Haus--#13 on the map. A frequent comment by visitors to Winter Park in winter is to avoid lodging closest to the train due to noise.

Yes I do like Hi Country Haus, It is an older condo complex but away from the train and in town.

If you are wanting more upscale Devils Thumb Ranch or Wild Horse Inn are worth a look.

There are a few chain type hotels along the main drag too

Yes spend the night, why not?

Since we will be sledding and not skiing, do you recommend we stay in the Village or in the town? We would like to spend one night to have dinner and a few drinks the night before I sledding.

I prefer the town to the village. There are some old favorite haunts, Deno's was our go to place for years You'd want to make a reservation

and the Pub

agree with the review

"The last good ski town bar in WP."

I'd stay in town.

Deno's Mountain Bistro, Fontenot's, and Gasthaus Eichler are all nice places to eat and have a few drinks.

Ask for Dan as your waiter at Deno's. He'll keep you laughing all night.

Winter Park Pub and The Smokehouse are good local's joints. The BBQ at the Smokehouse is very good. Nigel works hard at quality control but be sure to tell him you can't understand his English accent. ;)

The Rocky Mountain Chalet in Fraser offers both reasonably priced motel rooms and of the best hostel set-ups in the country. Take the free shuttle from Fraser to Winter Park, it stops right across the street from the hotel.

The original post is a year old... surprised TA hadn't closed it yet.
