Odymom, I don't know where you are from or what kind of driving you are used to.
We went to WP in January and had heard bad things about the pass.
It turned out to be (at least to us) nothing near as bad as what we expected. They had just received a lot of snow so the road was pretty much covered. We just took it slow. We couldn't even see the guardrails or see over the edge for all the snow piled up on the sides. The road seemed to be in very good shape and very wide.
We stayed at the Zephyr. It is the best location you can get. You will have a little walk from the greens (which seems like a lot more at that altitude) but you will be fine. You really cannot get any better location. In the mornings, I would go up the Zephry Express and ski down the only green to get to some of the other areas. That green trail I didn't care much for (a bit too much for me- I don't like a lot of speed), but it was very wide and leads you to other good green areas.
So, you can go up the Zephyr Express to get to greens, but coming to the base on greens you will be just a tad farther from the lodge.
