Honeymooning in January. PLEASE HELP ! ! |
|
Chipeta Sun Lodge in Ridgeway, CO looks really nice. Please recommend or advise against this lodge or even this town. I have only seen one review that wasn't conclusive. I'm honeymooning in January. I would like to ski a couple of days. Any suggestions? i would be staying for one week. i would prefer to stay n telluride but have not found a hotel in the historic district with a fireplace and in room jucuzzi. Except franklin manor bed and breakfast? Any thoughts on this B&B. Hotel Telluride? Romantic activities? Please. The more responses the better. i hope to get a rounded view. Thank you. |

Instead of Ridgway, consider staying in Ouray. The two are only about 15 minutes apart (a very easy drive thru the valley), and there is lots more to do in Ouray, and much better restaurants. Many of the hotels offer ski or lift packages for Telluride. If it's your honeymoon, I would recommend the St. Elmo Hotel.

If you would like to stay in Telluride, check out Accommodations in Telluride's website at www.VacationTelluride.com and take a look at Madison Pacific. I know of a few honeymooners in there over the past year! It is romantic with a gas fireplace, south facing deck and a large jacuzzi in the Master Suite, and close to the base of Lift 7 and the Gondola.

There is a nice hot springs in Ouray too! :)

I disagree that there is more to do in Ouray. I visit Telluride about twice a year and without a doubt the better restaurants, shops, etc. are in Telluride. Telluride is pricey, but what ski town isn't? I have never stayed at the Chipeta Lodge, but have gone to the spa there and was favorably impressed. The Peaks (Wyndham Hotel) is very nice (in Telluride) also very expensive, don't know what your budget is. Atmospheres spa at the Camel Back Hotel is great also. I went to Telluride for my honeymoon also, got married there too. We stayed at the Honeymoon Suite at Pennington's. Some one told me that Pennington's has now gone condo, so I don't know that it is still available. Good Luck!!

I agree that Ouray IMHO is far more charming and quant than Telluride, definitely more than Ridgeway. However, it took us about an hour to drive from OUray to Telluride. That may be a consideration for you depending upon how many days you plan to ski in Telluride. I didn't particularly care for Telluride, but Ouray is one of the most delightful places I've ever been. I can't wait to return. Ridgeway is more like a place to pass through. There is no 'town' that I saw.

I have personally stayed at this hotel in ouray on several occasions. http://www.ouraycolorado.com/resort It would be a top noch place to stay. It doesn't have an in room jacuzii. Ouray is much less plastic than Teluride, but the view in teluride is the best in the area. You guys pickeda fantastic place to honeymoon this is by far my favorite part of colorado.

I still think that Ouray is slightly tacky, but hey, everyone has different tastes. Whatever you decide, I hope you are pleased. Whichever one you choose, I would take the time to visit the other. I agree that Ridgeway is not the place to be, you can see everything there in a afternoon, easily. Hope you have a great trip.

Ridgeway is cute, but SMALL, same with Ouray. Keep in mind that Ouray is a little over 1 hour drive from Telluride and Ridgeway is 45 minutes away. There are more romantic, fine dining restaurants in TElluride than Ouray even. Possibly look into staying at Dunton Hot Springs if you are really looking to blow some cash.

Spent some time in Telluride this summer visiting a friend who works in the hotel industry there. If you're not tied to the historic district, try Inn at Lost Creek - lovely place (right next to the gondola so it's a quick trip down the hill into town.) Also - Dunton Hot Springs outside of town. Phenomenal -unfortunately couldn't get in this summer. Individual cabins in an old town that has been restored. Beautiful! Good luck.
