How is the smoke from the wild fires in Pagosa Springs?

We're scheduled to arrive in Pagosa Springs in a few days. We're considering canceling our vacation there due to the wild fires. Can someone who lives there give me an update on the smoke situation? Thank you.

I too am sorry you have to cut your trip short, maybe head to northern Colorado, they got more snow and moisture this year. Weather, wind and uncontrolled wildfire are not predictable and will change day to day or even hour to hour. Yes rain is needed. A week ago they said the town of South Fork would be destroyed and now today some people are being let back into town.

Here in Santa Fe 2 days ago it was clear with blue skies, then last night the wind shifted and now hazy and smoky. This drought is really tough on the west and these last few days of super high temps haven't helped any at all.

Thank you so much for the "heads up". We've decided to cancel for this year. Don't want to take a chance on getting smoked out. Hopefully those terrible fires will be under control soon.

I apologize that conditions reported 3 days ago have, in fact, changed. Currently, air quality is poor. According to the fire updates, air quality in Pagosa is expected improve tomorrow. Time will tell.

Any updates? We are supposed to stay in Pagosa Springs on July 5 but may change our plans. I'm concerned about air quality and ash, and am wondering if traffic is unbearably slow on Hwy 160. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing that link again, Alli. They are providing updates daily at 9am now.

If anyone is interested in first hand perspective...we had a few days of poor air quality last Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning (apparently due to a high pressure system that created an inversion layer and trapped smoke in the valley). It was not pleasant. We have since had 3 days in a row with moisture - and it has just begun to sprinkle again. A very nice change of pace. Air quality today, and since Sunday morning, has been good / normal. No smoke, ash, etc, but some minimal haze over mountains. For current views, check out the live streaming webcam from downtown: http://pagosa.com/live-streaming-video/

Wolf Creek Pass / Hwy 160 and Hwy 149 (South Fork to Creede)are both open with no delays (or use of pilot cars). Highway Patrol has asked that people do not stop on the Pass to take photos so that traffic does not interfere with the fire personnel.

Does the Fogelberg place still look as beautiful as it did when he owned it? Sure do miss him!

Is the Fogelberg place still as beautiful as it was when he owned it? Have the new owners made any big changes to the ranch? He really loved it in Pagosa. Sure do miss him. Know you guys do too.
