May 25 to June 1, 08 - Too early?

Would late May be too early to do trail hiking, mounatin bike riding, rafting and fishing. We are looking at a trip for a few family members from AK, CA and OK. This week meets all of our needs, but we want to make sure we are not hitting the mountain area too early. I know this year is getting a possible snow storm, but on an average year what would be our expectations?

Thanks bunches!!!

That one is hard to predict. It would be a time of year when you would need to be prepared for changing conditions. We had freezing temps overnight the last two nights in Glenwood and elevations above 7000 saw a little snow. By Saturday we will be back in the 70's. This kind of weather is not unusual. The rule of thumb for gardening is that you risk loosing plants to a freeze if you plant before Memorial Day.

Any cold weather that we get this time of year is usually short lived (1-2 days). You should be fine this time of year with all of the activities that you have planned. Rafting would be the only concern. The river water is almost always cold, and in late May it is especially cold since it is fresh snow melt, and the nights are still cold, leaving little time for the water to warm up. You would probably want to either buy or rent the jackets to keep you dry. Might want to also wear the waterproof socks. The last time I rafted at the end of May, the temps were warm, at the start, but in the afternoon it clouded up and by the end of the trip my teeth were chattering!
