Visiting Pike's Peak with luggage in car

We'll be driving to Colorado Springs from Denver, and hope to see Pike's Peak that afternoon. How safe would it be to leave our luggage in the rental car while we take the cog railway? Ideally we'd check in to our CS hotel first, but since most check-ins aren't until 2:00, I'm thinking we'd be rushed to check in then get back to the peak for departure at 4:00.

Thanks for your help!

as long as it's locked your vehicle should be fine. We've traveled with luggage in tow before and had no problems. Throw a throw blanket or jacket over it to further conceal if you have anything like it in your luggage. Also you may be surprised if you stop in to check in "early" they may have a room ready or call and check, it's worth a try.

No problems. Manitou Springs (although a little quirky) is a safe town. There's usually a person manning the parking lot.

I have found that most times you can get in to a hotel/ motel much earlier than they advertise. A vacation home (such as VRBO) not as often. Just play it by ear when you get here. You do have to show up 30 min. early to the Cog.

Thanks! Just wondering, how far out of town is Pike's Peak?

6 or 7 miles from downtown, Take Cimarron (hwy. 24) exit Manitou Springs. Stay on the main road through town, you'll see signs at the roundabout.
