We are travelling from Australian and plan to spend 3 nights in Tahoe.
Can anyone suggest the best place to stay for us to get the best Tahoe experience? We would like to enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as experiencing great food, casinos etc.
Are there anythings we must not miss that are local knowledge?
What will the weather be? Hot or cold?

Well it's rarely hot in Tahoe. You will feel a nip in the air as winter comes early to the mountains . It could be sunny during the day but it could also be rainign or even have some snow flurries. October is one of those months that's tricky.
You might stay in South Lake Tahoe for all the things on your list. Will you need a RV park with hookups?
The timing of your visit should be for the Sierra Nevada fall colors. The best viewing in the area is the Hope Valley on Hwy 88 which is very close to Lake Tahoe. Take a look above-- at Suzie's avatar. It will be cool even possible to see some snow, but it usually does not stick around in October.
Sorry, I am not sure about RV parks at Lake Tahoe, but some of the campgrounds will be closed in October.
We used to stay in Tahoe Valley Campground, they have hook ups.

SLT is where the casino's and restaurants are. Will you be abe to move your rig to drive there?
I think you might be very happy in the RV campground at Zephyr Cove. Great Location, Near all the things on your list. Click on the "Stay" tab for the RV campground info.

We are not overly concerned if we dont have hook up; although it would be appreciated. If you know of somewhere fantastic with no hookup we would love to hear about it.
We are really looking forward to the colours tahoe has to offer; we are both very much into photography :)
We will be hiring a 22' RV. Can this be driven in the main areas around south lake tahoe?
If difficult, is there any form of public transport that can take us to the centre where the restaurants etc are?
