should we stay in Solvang or Bulleton

Hi, I am visiting Solvang around Christmas. I have a friend who

told me the last time she stayed in Solvang, the whole family

cannot sleep at night . She said because it is a small town, there

are a lot of cars on the road, and also the restaurant opens late

and people like to dine outside. I was wondering if Bulleton

would be better then. We just want to make sure we get some

rest at night so we can continue our tour next morning.

Is there anything to do around Bulleton.

I really appreciate any input you can give me

Nothing really in Buellton except for Split Pea Anderson Restaurant.

So if you want somewhat boring area, then do Buellton.

Solvang is more fun - but still a quiet town.

The choice of lodging and not having a room directly on the road will make the difference.

I agree with mini. Stay in Solvang. Most of the hotels in Buellton are right off the freeway, so you would be trading one kind of noise for another. I would rather hear a little human interaction than cars zipping along the freeway all night. You?

I've stayed in both Solvang and Buellton and didn't have issues with noise in either place.

I've stayed a number of times in Buellton at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott, it is nice and quiet and unlike some of the other hotels is not on the main highway. We always like to eat a nice steak dinner at the Hitching Post II. If you are driving up Highway 1 it is very easy to get to, near Pea Soup Anderson's.

Solvang and Buellton are only a few miles apart from one another.

I have another recommendation to stay overnight in Santa Barbara.

Apparently, it is 1/2 hour drive from Solvang. Any input on this. ?

I do not know too much about either Solvang or Santa Barbara. I

am not sure which one has more to see.

If the consensus is Santa Barbara, any recommendation for a decent

, clean hotel, moderately priced ( maybe up to $120?), and which part

of Santa Barbara would you recommend for a hotel stay ?

Thanks so much. I really appreciate all your input

Santa Barbara is expensive. To save on lodging, the town of Goleta on the northern edge of Santa Barbara probably has more budget friendly options, but not sure if any would fall in your price range.

Hopefully a SB local can help with that. There is a Motel 6 in Santa Barbara, but not sure how good it is. On the other hand, the Motel 6 in Buellton gets pretty high marks.

The Cliff House Inn in Mussell Shoals is a bit south of Santa Barbara, but has very reasonable rates, particularly during the week (look for their specials online). Also, they have a great restaurant and are RIGHT on the ocean. You will hear the crashing waves all night.

It's March 2012, but I would still like to add my two cents. We used to stay at Svengaard's Lodge in Solvang (3rd flr., fireplace rooms, wonderful). Always a good stay. Lately, we've been at The Corque Hotel in Solvang. Beautiful hotel, but more costly. However, we get great discounts for the Corque because I play at the Chumash Casino. It owns the Corque. I donate enough of my $ to the Native Americans to qualify me for a great discount. However, Svensgaard's is still one of our favorites and we take company there when they are in town. We are not bothered by the road noise. Great location. If you stay in Buellton, have breakfast or lunch at Ellen's Pancake House (great Danish pancakes) and/or Mother Hubbard's Cafe for anything. For day trips in area, visit Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Los Alamos - miniature horse farm, ostrich farm, apple picking, antiques in Los Alamos. A beautiful area to visit for more than one day.
