Santa Barbara to Laguna Hills -- How far of a drive?

My husband and I are driving from SF to LA for our honeymoon next month and have planned a night in Santa Barbara. We have family in Laguna Hills that we are going to stay with, but I was wondering if the drive would be too far?? If so, where would be a good place to stop and stay inbetween. (maybe a smaller town that would be cheaper for accomodations?)

Thanks.

The drive is only a couple hours unless there is traffic. Avoid driving during the morning (6 am to 9 am) and evening (3 pm to 7 pm) rush hours and you should be fine.

Do you mean the drive between SF and SB? I'm always lollygagging on the drive, so I never record how much it takes with straight driving, but 6 hours would be a good bet.

Randmcnally.com indicates that the drive time between SF-SB is 5 hours and 44 minutes.

If you have never been to California considering driving Highway 1, the coastal route. Monterey is located in a beautiful part of California, but kinda too close to SF to use as a midway stopping point. But hey it's your honeymoon. The drive time between Monterey and SB via Highway 1 is 5 hours.

I don't mind driving, so anywhere for a midpoint is good for me. Other cities to consider are Cambria, Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, Shell Beach. SLO is about 1.5 hours north of SB.
