where to stay in San Luis Obispo

Hi we are traveling from San Francisco to Los Angeles and have been told that San Luis is a lovely place, we are going to stay for 1 or 2 nights taking in the Thursday Farmers market. Any suggestions of where to stay to be right in the centre of town and walking distance of everything. Must be clean and comfortable price is not too much of an issue if location is right.

Many thanks

Look at the newly re-opened Granada Hotel or Garden Street Inn. Those are the only two properties I know of close to downtown SLO.

If you are willing to walk 4-5 blocks to get to farmers market I would check out the hotels on the north end of Monterey Street.

Farmers market in SLO is a blast and there are great restaurants in the down town area.

I think SLO is a great little city, but what route are you taking from SF to LA? If you were going to drive Highway 1 were you going to drive from SF to SLO in one day? It is about a 7 hour drive without stops.

We've stayed at The Peach Tree and La Cuesta Hotel in recent years.
