We will be in San Clemente from Dec 29th - January 3rd. What might be some options for New Year's Eve? We don't mind driving but would like to avoid going too far with the less than sober folks on the road that evening.
New years eve tends to be quiet with so many people worried about driniking. The 5 star hotels will have parties like at the ritz calrton but they are pretty pricey. Local restaurant can be fun.
The Orange County fairgrounds in Costa Mesa will have this big party, we went last year, it was pretty fun, they had a lot of tribute bands. Disneyland has a monster party, super crowded.

One of the coolest spots for NYE in San Clemente is The Casino. It is a traditional Ole Hanson building where they host weddings and different events and on NYE the have a band and food and dancing and it's just fun. Not huge venue Vegas style hook up fun, but a great place to go with your partner or a group of friends. It is right in town and there are hotels that you can walk to or get to with a very short drive.
If you like to bar hop, stay at one of the hotels on or near El Camino Real at Del Mar and you can easily hit 15+ places, many with live music, within a few blocks.
