Planning our first visit to the wine country!

We're going to take about 3 days to drive up the PCH/Highway 1 from LA to SF and then will have a day and a half for the wine country. This is our first time so we don't really know what to do.

We enjoy wine, but don't know that much about it. Please reply with recommendations of the top 4-5 wineries to see for a first timer. We're probably more interested in the scenery and memorable experiences than the high quality of the wine.

We're staying in Sonoma (Rohnert Park area) but would be willing to travel around.

How about a fantastic, medium priced restaurant?

Lastly, has anyone done the mud baths?

Thank you in advance for the replies,

Mark

There is a list of Sonome County hotel deals here:

It's worth checking web sites etc, even in the summer rush, there are often deals to be had, but off-season it gets even better.

Rhonert Park is a nice city, sort of at the beginning of wine country, but if you want a more wine country experience, I would stay nearer the vineyards. In Sonoma County suggestions would be Healdsburg, Windsor, the Sonoma Valley, and the Russian River area.

Lots of people have done the mud baths, but they are in the Napa Valley, in Calistoga. Reachable, but not near Rhonert Park. They are a different experience, for sure. Extremely relaxing, however.
