When to go? Th-Mo or Su-Th?

Trying to plan a 4-night stay in Paso Robles. Would it be better to do a Thurs-Mon or a Sun-Thurs stay? I normally try to stay away from the weekends if possible but don't know if that would be a good idea as far as the wineries are concerned. Advice?

The nice thing about the Paso Robles wine country is that it is still somewhat "undiscovered". It isn't nearly as crowded as Napa/Sonoma and there are separate wine regions around Paso to explore: the east side wineries off Highway 46 East (Toward Fresno/Bakersfield) and the west side or Far Out Wineries off Highway 46 West (Toward Highway 1/Cambria).

There are also a handful of wineries south of Paso in the Templeton area.

I suggest visiting www.pasowine.com and check out the links to several wineries to see what their hours/days of operation are and then make your decision based on what you find available for Sun-Thurs.

Another wine tasting region near this area you may want to consider is south of San Luis Obispo in Edna Valley. It's a quiet and lovely area with several nice wine tasting venues.

Some of the wineries are only open on the weekends, so that might be worth considering when making your plans. If you plan to go on a non-event weekend, like Wine Festival or Harvest, it shouldn't be too crowded, although if you're eating at any of the great restaurants, like Artisan, McPhee's, Thomas Hill Organics or Enoteca, an advance reservation is probably wise just so you're not disappointed. Have a great time!
