We are traveling to Palm Desert for a weekend in June. 2 night, just want to relax and hang out in pool with our 3 and 6 year old children. Can anyone recommend one of these resorts over the other?

I've never stayed at Marriott Rancho. I have stayed at Desert Springs ll & I . Shadow Ridge, JW and Esmeralda. From the looks of the Marriott website, Rancho although beautiful, looks more like a place for couples not kids. We've stayed At DS ll twice w/ three young kids and loved it. The space is perfect and there are great pools for everyone to enjoy.

Hi,

The Las Palmas is a hotel resort(nice sized rooms) and the Desert Springs Villas are large condos. The Desert Springs has a hotel section, but is separated from the condos.

Both resorts are beautiful and relaxing. The Las Palmas is more old California style in architecture and the Desert Springs is more contemporary. The pools are larger at the Desert Springs.

The Las Palmas is across the street from The River shopping center which has an excellent selection of restaurants, cinemas and shops.

I like them both, but most people usually pick the Desert Springs, because of the dramatic common areas(canals with boats).

Cheers!!!.

I know this won't help the person traveling on June 2, but for anyone else considering this resort.... DON'T. We stay in the Palm Desert area twice a year and have been to every nice resort out there. The Rancho Las Palmas was a real disappointment. It's basically a Best Western on a golf course. The rooms are moldy and musty, there is a distinct sewer odor throughout the property, and it's just not impressive at all. I would highly recommend the JW or Renaissance above this place.

I agree with the previous poster. the Marriott is not very impressive...needs a renovation.
