Looking for one day creative luggage solution

I'm flying into Oakland arriving 8:30AMish, then I'm touring UC Berkeley all day - going all over campus. Flying out that night, and I will have one carry-on with wheels. I don't know anyone with whom I can leave the luggage and can't even check it in because of the four hour rule on Southwest. No lockers at the airport, and I'm not renting a car to get to campus - BART or a taxi since there isn't parking.

I'm tempted to beg the Admissions office to store it for me but I hate to rely on that kind of trust. I also thought about renting a car and leaving it in the lot. The cheapest rentals according to Kayak are Advantage, Fox and Payless. I would shuttle to the car rental, check in, put luggage in car, shuttle back to airport to catch a taxi (I don't think taxis hang out at car rental places.....).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance Oakland peeps!

Most nice hotels will store you luggage whether you stay there or not (give a good tip to the bellman). Perhaps contact the Hotel Shattuck Plaza which is close to the downtown Berkeley BART station. (To be honest, I've done it and the bellman didn't know whether I was staying there or not.)
