I'm staying at the Marriott City Center for a week - is this an ok place to run outside? If so, what is a good route?

The best place to run is at nearby Lake Merritt. It's a very popular spot to run, jog, or walk. You can also head down to the estuary (Jack London Square area) but there isn't as much distance that can be covered.

Definitely Lake Merritt. You can go/run to Lakeside Drive to the hotel (Camron-Stanford House is a good place to start), then run along the lake North and then East along the lake or along Grand Ave.

If you like running in really pretty areas on trails, head for the Oakland hills. It's a 20+ minute drive, but very beautiful. Choices are Sibley, Redwood, or Roberts parks.

Lake Merritt is okay. It's about six tenths of a mile from the Marriott to the lake. I would recommend daylight hours only to non-locals. You can also BART to San Francisco (12 minutes) and run the Embarcadero all the way around the waterfront to the Golden Gate. In fact, I'd recommend you do that because it's one of the world's great urban runs. Around 9 miles out and back.
