Is A Hotel in Emeryville a safe location for tourists?

I just booked the Four Points Sheraton in Emeryville as a cheaper alternative to staying right in San Fran. We were planning to arrive one evening, tour San Fran the next day then depart the following morning. A family member has now mentioned that they think Oakland is not a safe place to stay and that we should stay in San Francisco instead. Can anyone help give some guidance on this?

Yes, the F picks up across the street from the hotel on Shellmound Street. (The drop-off stop is on Christie Avenue, across the street from the hotel on the other side.) If you go to Google Maps, you can see the transit information there. Google Maps doesn't do a very good job of identifying each individual stop location, but you can zoom in to Street View to see them.

Thank you Davden.. I used google maps and it looks like an hour ride from Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf on Columbus St. is that correct.? We'll have luggage and maybe Bart would be a quicker route.

Islabonita, I'd start a new topic so you can get answers tailored just for you and your situation. It sounds like you are switching hotels?

An hour sounds a little high. Most of the travel time would be on Muni in SF, so taking BART won't help you speed up the trip. In fact, it would make it longer. If you take the AC Transit bus to SF and then catch a cab, the trip should be no more than 30 minutes.

You can also catch the free EmeryGoRound bus that will take you to Macarthur BART. You can catch the Shellmound-Powell line at the Trader Joe's stop (marked as a purple "18" on this map: http://www.emerygoround.com/schedule-maps).These are white buses with purple and yellow decals on the side. Probably about a 10 minute ride from where you're staying to the BART, and then another 20 minute BART ride (catch the SFO, Daly City, or Millbrae lines) to downtown SF. About $3.50 roundtrip per person in the end.

Not necessarily superior to any of the other transportation options, but another option nonetheless.
