Transportation from OAK airport to Tracy

I am moving to Tracy for 3 months this summer, so I bought a ticket to Oakland International Airport. However, when I looked at rental cars at OAK, it costs at least $130-150 per day for rental cars, because I won't be able to drop it off at the same location (Oakland airport). The same car would cost 80% less if I could drop it off at the same location. What are my options? Would public transportation be possible at all? I can mail my stuff to Tracy, I guess, if I have to take the bus from OAK to Tracy if I can save a substantial amount of money, if there are any buses (I'll be going there on a weekday. Airport shuttle from OAK to Tracy costs about $185 one way.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Its a bit of work and will take a lot longer to get to Tracy, but one public transportation possibility is:

but

1) Take the Shuttle bus from Oakland Airport to Bart Station $3.00

http://www.flyoakland.com/bart_airbart.shtml

2) Take Bart from Oakland To Fremont $4.10

3) Take AC transit to the Altamont Commuter Express $2.00

4) Take Altamont Commuter Express from Fremont to Tracy $7.75

Since it is a commuter train, you would need to line up your air flight in to be in synch with their schedule to Tracy (which would take some work to do).

It is definitely not the easiest or fastest way to get there - but it is a way to get to Tracy using public transportation. Cost is thus $16.85

Not sure where you need to get to Tracy from the ACE station there.

Yes, you would want to take the ACE commute train service between the Bay Area and Tracy. The above directions are a good start, but I recommend a more direct route:

1. From the airport, take AirBART ($3.00) or AC Transit Route 73 ($2.00) from the terminal to Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART Station.

2. Take a Dublin/Pleasanton-bound BART train (blue line on map, but trains are referred to by final destination, not color) to West Dublin/Pleasanton Station ($3.45).

3. Transfer to Wheels Route 53, which is a shuttle that connects this BART station directly to the nearby ACE station in Pleasanton ($1.00 w/ BART transfer, which can be obtained before exiting station).

4. Take ACE to Tracy ($4.50).

Total fare is $10.95-11.95.

See:

BART and AirBART - http://www.bart.gov

AC Transit Route 73 - http://www.actransit.org

Wheels Route 53 - http://www.lavta.org

ACE - http://www.acerail.com

Note: If you get hungry/bored/etc. en route, the West Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station is located a short walk from Stoneridge Mall.

There is no transit service directly to the ACE station in Tracy. However, TRACER Routes D and E stop a few blocks away. See here: http://www.mvtransit.com/Tracer_home.htm

I realized after my last post that the Tracer routes in question don't operate in the late afternoon, when ACE is running. So you will have to be picked up from the train station to get into Tracy proper; the ACE station is on the south side of town away from everything.

There is an alternate means of getting from the Bay Area to Tracy. The alternate means may be more attractive to you since it is pretty simple! Specifically, you would do this:

1. Same as above.

2. Same as above, except you would ride to Dublin/Pleasanton (last stop) rather than West D/P. Fare is $3.60.

3. Take RTD Routes 160, 167, or 171 to Tracy.

See http://www.sanjoaquinrtd.com for more information on RTD. The RTD fare is $7. VERY IMPORTANT: In order to use RTD, you must call RTD and make a seat reservation.
