They would enjoy the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, it is a place teens love to hang out. It is an outdoor mall with tons of smaller stores of all price ranges, department stores, restaurants, movie theater, ferris wheel, merry go round and during the winter an ice skating rink. It is very popular with teens. In NB the main mall is Fashion Island and it is over all upscale.

Balboa Island, 17th Street @ Newport Blvd area, Metro Pointe at South Coast, and depending on how far you want to go, the Tustin Marketplace.

Balboa Island, Metro Pointe and 17th Street it doesn't really matter.

The Spectrum is the worst one because it is at the heart of the El Toro Y where the 5 & 405 Freeways converge (or split depending on your view), just avoid the morning commute until about 9AM and you are fine, same thing for Tustin Marketplace & The District at Tustin, anytime after 9AM.

Most shops and stores open at 10 AM so that is after traffic times. If you leave NB after 9:30 to be at any of the above mentioned places, you will be fine. To the Tustin Marketplace and Irvine Specturm there is afternoon and evening rush but you can get to both on surface streets if you want to go late afternoon or early evening.

Here is a link to the Irvine Spectrum so you can see the vast arrays of shops, there is more at that shopping mall than any of the others mentioned. http://www.shopirvinespectrumcenter.com/ If they are just looking for a few beach type shops and to walk around a bit, Balboa Island is a nice choice.

I think Angel IS a teen and she said she did NOT want an upscale mall so Fashion Island would not fit that request. I would not want a teen from another country trying to drive from Newport Beach to Irvine Spectrum by herself.

Scott's suggestion of Balboa Island is good. Huntington Beach's Downtown (Main St and surrounding streets) area also offers many teen oriented shops and a Forever 21 store.

So, I actually said the main mall in NB, Fashion Island, IS overall upscale. I was pointing out the type of mall it is, not suggesting it. However, there is a Forever 21 at Fashion Island and some other stores that are not upscale but it is overall upscale. It is a viable option for some reasonable shopping that is close by, it just would not be my first suggestion.

I do not see where it says Angel is a teen. I believe Angel has teens. Even if Angel is a teen or a teen were driving themselves somewhere, the drive from NB to the Irvine Spectrum is very easy and straightforward, as long as it is not during rush hour.

The Main St. area in Huntington Beach has a bit too much of a bar and party scene at times to make it somewhere I would suggest without knowing when they are going, are they being dropped off, will an adult be there, etc.

The scene (lots of other teens) at the Irvine Spectrum and the assortment of shops is what many teens in the area love. Lots of teens are dropped off there daily.

Thanks for your response. You are right Angel is not a teen but will be traveling as a family with some. I am staying with the kids while shopping however the post thinking I was a teenager made it sound like driving to Irvine is crazy.not really use to freeway driving like the 405. What kind of drive is it to the outlets at orange? Thanks
