Getting from San Francisco to Napa Valley and back!

Hi There,

Looking for help! We are staying in San Francisco for 4 nights and leaving on a Friday to go to Napa Valley for 2 days. We need to get back to San Francisco airport for 11am on Sunday morning. Aside from hiring a car what options are there for getting to Napa and back?

Any help much appreciated!!

Hello, gracey83, and welcome to TripAdvisor and the Napa forum.

The San Francisco Bay area, including Napa Valley, has several "airporter" transit services, which are privately owned, that take passengers from the surrounding areas around San Francisco to the San Francisco Airport and the Oakland Airport. The one I'm aware of that services the Napa area is Evans Airporter service. Here's the link for them: http://www.evanstransportation.com/

I think you'll find their prices and service very reasonable compared to hiring a taxi or private car.

Please let us know if you need more information. The forum members here are all too willing to help! Enjoy your stay in the San Francisco Bay area.

once you get to Napa Valley, you will still need a car to get around. So a car would be best to spend 2 days there. If you don't want to rent then perhaps a day tour from SF to Napa will be best. Check out the SF top questions and there is a list there.

Another option is to use the Vine bus from the Vallejo ferry terminal. You have to take the Ferry to Vallejo and then the 29 Vine bus goes to Napa. With luggage et al, not the easiest way to travel and you will waste a lot of time.

Unless you have booked your hotels, typically weekdays are cheaper than weekends in Napa as locals from around the Bay area go up there along with visitors.

Yes, you will probably save some money if you swap the days for Napa Valley and San Francisco. It would also be easier to get to the airport if staying in SF Saturday night.

You can get to Napa via ferry and bus, or Bart and bus, or Amtrak and bus but once there, you will need a car or will need to hire a driver to get around. Please advise us as to your situation.
