How far is the walk from Marriott Portola to Aquarium .....

will be in town for BIG SUR marathon late april and will be at EXPO at hotel till 1pm

dont have to be back to hotel till 4:30 and instead of going all the way back to Carmel where we are staying, thought would maybe do Aquarium in between. We have a car, but was wondering if walkable to too far as it would eat into our viewing times. Or would it be better to just walk the recreation trail to lovers point etc and save aquirium for another day.

Also any reasonable suggestions for lunch that is fairly good for you and clean? Do the race on sunday, so dont need huge portions or greasy stuff or alchol. Thanks.

It's almost a 2 mile walk from the Portola to the aquarium. I suggest driving. You can kill two birds with one stone by parking along Ocean View Blvd in Pacific Grove (Across from the Green Gables Inn is a good place to park) and walk the rec trail back to the aquarium. It's a lovely walk that won't eat up a lot of your time.

After the aquarium, you can continue driving along the beautiful PG shoreline until the road turns away from the coast and ends at Forest Ave. Make a right and continue until you reach Highway 1 back to Carmel.

The aquarium has a restaurant on site, which has been undergoing a total remodel, but should be re-open by the time of your visit. There should be plenty of fresh seafood dishes, as well as sandwiches, salads, etc. to choose from.

Hope that helps. IF you make that drive along the PG shoreline, you'll be treated to a blanket of pink ice plant as you round the corner at Lover's Point, which is only in bloom a short month or two a year.

You seem a little confused on the geography. First off, the Marriott and Portola are two separate hotels, across the street from each other in downtown Monterey. They're both about a mile and a quarter or so of the aquarium.

Lovers Point is actually farther than the aquarium, another mile down the recreation trail. Parking somewhere between them as Kibblesmom suggested, would be a good idea.

To do the aquarium justice, and to justify the admission cost, you should allow about 3 hours.

Thanks, yes I just typed it from memory, can never remember where expo is held. Thanks for the tip of timing. Just was trying to maximize time there as dinner back at hotel is 4:30 and not sure if we will be back in Monterey proper another day before going home.
