Hearst Castle Visit

Hi - we will be visiting Cambria during our trip to California and want to visit Hearst Castle. Can you advise if we need to book a tour before -hand, or are you able to just turn up and book a tour?

Also, any other recommended places to visit in this area would be most appreciated?

Many thanks.

Yes, you should pre-book your tour at Hearst Castle, especially if your visit is within the next few months of heavy travel season.

Be sure to visit the elephant seal rookery 4 miles north of Hearst Castle.

The town of Cambria has 2 distinct shopping districts with unique and fun shops for browsing. We also like to walk the grounds of Cambria Nursery on the hill above the East Village. They have done a nice job of creating "outdoor rooms" with themes from Japanese gardens to waterfalls/ponds.

The Santa Rosa Chapel is also worth a visit. It's a historical landmark.

You might also want to take a tour of Nitwit Ridge, a poor man's Hearst Castle, if you will, built by an eccentric man out of junk collected throughout the years.

If you're wine drinkers, the nearby Paso Robles wine country has dozens of great wineries you can visit, all with 30 minutes of Cambria.

The boardwalk on Moonstone Beach Drive is great for sunset or morning walks and soaking up Cambria's beautiful views. You can often see otters frolicking in the surf off-shore.

Cambria is the forum you should be posting on and not Monterey. I would also suggest you look at the hearst castle website. I am pretty sure you may want to book a tour during Summer and check which tour you want to do.

For info on the Big Sur area you should check out

With over half a million visitors a year, perhaps booking a tour in advance

would be better imho

For the Monterey Area Mr Toy is very respected and knowledgeable on this forum and has his blog

Kibblesmom who is the DE for this region will I am sure be by with her info.
