Not much to add to what Dez already said in your other thread. Where are you planning to spend the nights? Nipton hotel is a special place but it's along the tracks of Union Pacific. I see you are planning to drive from Brawley on ca78. If you do I would not go beyond Glamis but make sure you'll drive up Osborne Overlook at Imperial Sanddunes.
You also are missing best part of Joshua Tree NP via Park Blv to Hidden Valley. From Julian you can take Sunrise highway to I8 from 79. That's a magnificent drive.

If you want to stop for a cuppa on the way between Los Angeles and Baker maybe try this:

Also make sure you'll stop in Kelso for the depot and museum and have a drink or food at The Beanery:

And of course take a picture of the odd xxyzx sign along I15 before Baker

Baker has the largest thermometer in the world. It''s for sale now ;)

That site www.roadsideamerica.com is a great source for quirky roadside attractions.

Any ides how to upload it to a tom tom navigator?
No idea. Also bring a map for this route. Gps not always reliable in the desert. In 29Palms you'll find a lot of murals.
You don't have to drive all the way to the town of JT to enter JTNP.It would be a much nicer drive to enter at the north entrance at 29 Palms and drive over thru the park to Hidden Valley. You will backtrack to head down to the south exit, but the scenery is nice.
For a map of Mojave Preserve
JT
For gas, you can get it at Baker $$,Cima Road at I-15 $$,Primm, Amboy$$, and 29 Palms.
Edited: 1:44 pm, February 13, 2013Fuel is expensive there but definitely stop in Amboy for Roy's Cafe. That''s an R66 icon although the road through Amboy is called National Trails hw.
