We have stayed at all 3 properties and while we enjoyed all of them, the Albion River Inn is hands down the best place if you want to pay the price. The direct views of the inlet and ocean are incredible and the rooms are nice. We always get one of the private cottages but they are pricey. Also the restaurant is really good and it is nice to just walk from your room to dinner or breakfast.

The Glendevon was charming but no real ocean views. The Agate Cove is also across a road. Only the Albion River Inn is directly on the water. You will enjoy any of these properties, just depends on what you want.

Admittedly I've only stayed at Agate Cove, but we've been repeat visitors. The views, walk ability to the headlands and town but still set apart are ideal. The inn's gardens, patio, the mini park across the street are spectacular for sunset views and a glass of wine or morning coffee. The breakfasts and hospitality of the hosts reflect highest quality and care and distinguish it for us at the top of our BnB list. We love the cottages we've stayed in, great comfort and quality in both bed and bath.

Thanks for the info. Agate cove and the Albion river Inn sound like what I am looking for.

How is the Sea Rock Inn compared to these two lodges? It also sounds like a nice place. Does anyone know if the Sea rock is directly on the water?

Sea Rock is next door to Agate Cove. There is a 2 lane road that separates it from the cliff that is above the cove. In the town of Mendocino proper the only beach you can walk out on is at the mouth of Big River on the south edge of town, down the path and stairs behind the Presbyterian Church. The shoreline is extraordinary but it's made up of craggy cliffs and grassy headlands. There are places you can climb down to the water and some amazing trails through the headlands. Take a look at the property through Google maps and you'll get a good idea of placement of them all.
