Don't know if this is of any use to you?

I received a promotional brochure the other day from Virgin Holidays and there was a list in there with the names of all the bars in popular California destinations which will be showing World Cup games. I didn't keep it but if you do not have any luck elsewhere you could contact Virgin.

Good luck

FYI, in America, it is called Soccer.

All games will be shown live on either two Cable Channels (ESPN or ESPN 2), they are basic channels (not pay), and most bars get both of them. Some games will be shown on an over-the-air channel, the ABC Network, which in the Los Angeles/Orange County area is Channel 7.

Most bars that are open should carry most of the games, since the time difference places the game during the day when there isn't much competition from other sports.

For example, I watched the UEFA championship at the ESPN Zone at the Disneyland Resort. The game started just before Noon, and even with the LA Dodgers playing live on TV at the same time, the Main Sports Bar, which seats close to 200 folks had the Soccer game on the Main screen, the sound was placed on the speakers, and the place was FULL, they had to open secondary areas for the Barcelona and Arsenal fans to watch the game. They didn't switch to the Dodger game until after the Post-game show with the Cup presentation was over.

There are plenty of "soccer" fans in the SoCal area, and you shouldn't have too much worries as for places to watch the games.

You might have some problems in a few hotel rooms, most Hotels offer both ABC and the main ESPN channel, a few hotels might not carry ESPN 2.

Tony P's Dockside Grill in Marina del Rey is the best tavern in the whole area, and has 28 screens tuned to sports. It's right on the harborfront, with great views of the boats and water, owned by a friendly guys named Tony and Danny. Good is good and has a huge selection of wine and beers and spirits. It's relazed and good for both men and women. Open 7 days.
