Ocean Express

Hi, can anyone tell me know the pricing for the Ocean Express works. If I was to get this from a hotel at the airport to Manhattan Pier, then from the Pier to Manhatttah Village shopping, the back to the hotel within the one day - would that be clasified as three $5 trips

The Ocean Express used to be $3, but this year it's $5 round trip. It's good for the whole day. Yes, you get the ticket from the front desk or concierge of your airport hotel on Century Blvd.

Hi we are visiting over the 4th of July, staying at Hawthorne Suites it seem walking distance to the Manhattan village shopping center. does it make sense to use the Ocean express instead of driving and parking at the beach while we are there? where do we buy tickets? Thanks for any help you may offer.

Yes, you can walk to the Village Shopping Center from the Hawthorne Suites on Sepulveda Blvd. It's only 2-3 blocks

The Ocean Express Trolley does not serve the Hawthorne Suites. You have to catch it at one of the Century Blvd. hotels at LAX, where you buy the round trip ticket at the front desk or from the concierge.

Here's where you can park in MB>

Thanks for the info. They do not sell the tickets on the bus or at the mall?

MICouple, I applaud your optimism but you're out of luck. CANative is our southbay expert and she would never overlook telling you if you could buy the tickets at someplace other than at a 'member hotel'.

Still there are local 'city buses' that go to the beach. Look at METRO.NET and enter the starting and ending points into the trip planner at the right side of the page.

The hotels on Century Blvd., just down the street from LAX, got together to create the Gateway Ocean Express Trolley to transport people to the downtown area of MB, the MB Village Mall or the Plaza in El Segundo for beach, shopping or restaurants. This helps out people staying at those hotels, rather than staying in El Segundo or MB, have somewhere to go. The Ocean Express service is a private operation solely for the use of Gateway member businesses.

There would really be no need for you to use the trolley, if staying in MB with a car. There is plenty of parking in both small malls if you wanted to go shopping. As for drop off and pick up at the beach, now that summer is here the trolleys are full, and they don't drop off at the base of the pier anymore, but three blocks away.

If you walked west on 17th Street, and over the hill with the big church at the top, it would be a shortcut to the beach from the hotel, and about a mile. If you decide to drive, my suggestion is to go straight to Lot M, the large underground parking lot, a few blocks back from the beach, where you can park from 3 to 10 hours. Lots of people inland don't know about that lot for weekend parking. Bring quarters, the meter maids will be out in full force over the 4th!

There is a Manhattan Bread and Bagel shop just across the street from the Hawthorne Suites. You can buy lots of things including sandwiches and drinks to take to the beach. Also a block away is a Target Store, where you can pick up beach chairs, suntan lotion, food, etc.

On July 4th, Redondo Beach is having a Fireworks display shot over the ocean. If you sit on the beach to watch, bring a sweatshirt or jacket.

The Ocean Express Trolley service is a private operation serving the businesses and hotel guests on Century Blvd. - Gateway to L.A. Tickets are available to guests of GTLA hotels - $5 per round trip.

Tickets are sold ONLY at Gateway to L.A. hotels.

This is not public transportation.

Hours: June - September 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. every half hour

October - May - 9:00 a.m. 8:00 p.m. every hour

Took the shuttle from Marriott to beach with my family on Father's Day because we had a day layover before going to Tahiti. Purchased tickets at Marriott and were picked up near hotel and transported to Manhattan Beach without a problem. However, when it was time to return the nightmare began. Supposedly, the shuttle was to run every half hour. We arrived before 1:00PM. No shuttle at 1:00. No shuttle at 1:30. By 1:45, four different parties were waiting. We all had to take $25 taxi rides to our hotels in order to catch our respective flights. Very disappointing and irresponsible. Definitely cannot recommend this service.

Sorry that happened to you, must have been stressful. Where were you waiting for the return shuttle? We're you at the MB Pier on Ocean Ave, or the new pickup spot at 9th and Manhattan Ave? What did the Marriott say, did they refund your fare?

In all the years of seeing the two shuttles passing each other on Sepulveda Blvd, coming and going each half hour, I've only seen one once have trouble and the driver phoned the other shuttle for back up to pick up guests on his run. As we were sitting across the street at the bakery having a sandwich, we saw AAA come to restart the battery or whatever.

Seems impossible that both shuttles were out of service at the same time. They run every half hour, but not necessarily on the half hour, as there are other stops each way. Where did all of you find taxi's?

Hope your flight and the rest of your trip was good.

Have to agree. We were trying to get back to our hotel to catch a flight at 10pm. The buses didn't run on the stayed timetable ie on the half hour. Then the bus broke down on our way back. Ended up being a rush.
