Hotels - Universal Studios?

Looking for a reasonable priced hotel in the Universal Studios area - with family type suites, that can sleep 6....2 beds, sofa sleeper type setup. Doesn't have to be within walking distance, just reasonable driving distance...maybe 10-15min. Appreciate your suggestions and recommendations.

I would check out the Hollywood Orchid Suites, sounds like a good match for what you want. Parking is $10, free breakfast and Wi-Fi and large rooms in multiple floor plans, comes with a kitchen or kitchenette in each room, and a great central location close to Universal. Highly ranked here at TA.

In the city of L.A. and immediate surroundings, it's hard to find hotel rooms that can accommodate more than 4 persons to a room. (In the city of Anaheim -- where Disneyland is -- this is not the case!).

So, we've amassed a list of hotels that can provide this type of accommodation. Keep in mind that each of these hotels has different ways of providing suitable bedding, e.g.

1. By adjoining 2 hotel rooms together

2. By providing a suite of rooms (1 or 2 bedrooms with an attached living room with a sofabed)

3. By providing rollaway beds (cots) in addition to the regular bedding in the rooms.

Bottom line: confirm with the hotel BEFORE YOU BOOK to be sure that there will be enough bedding and that it will be the correct size and type for you.

Here's the list:

Be aware that most of these hotels offer room options that have JUST ONE BATHROOM!

The closest hotels to Universal would be those listed in the San Fernando Valley and Burbank. It's hard to recommend a specific hotel since we don't know what 'reasonable price' means. It's helpful if you include your city/country of residence with your screen name as that tells us a lot about you; in this case, it might help us to guess what 'reasonable' means. You can add this info by editing your profile.

In addition to price, we need to know the quality of hotel you're looking for. For example, the Orchid Suites Hotel mentioned hotel is a BASIC 2-star property (think 'motel'). Are you looking for something a little nicer (like a 3-star 'Holiday Inn' type of hotel?) or something else?

I found a Hampton Inn & Suites at airport, but couldn't believe it's $200....have a reservation on hold at Embassy near Disney for $179 - a much nicer hotel that I'd be happy with paying but a littler further than we'd like to be since we're not going to Disney, but to Universal for a couple of days. Holiday Inn in area was $300!

I assume you mean the Hampton Inn near the Burbank airport, right?

Forget about staying in Anaheim!

You don't need to spend 2 days at Universal. One day is more than enough.

I would look at the Residence Inn in Downtown Burbank.

Downtown Burbank has a lot of great shops and restaurants and more importantly the Residence Inn has the two bedroom suites that have 2 bathrooms in them, something crucial with 6 almost adults in one room and it includes a good breakfast.

The Orchid Suites also has 2 bedrooms/2 bath options, and is in a much more central tourist location than downtown Burbank.

You could try the Embassy Suites in Glendale - its only a few years old, its a lot nicer than Orchid Suites and a lot closer to Universal than either of the two Embassy Suites at LAX. Should be about a 15 minute drive when traffic is decent.

The Hollywood Orchid Suites has very few 2 bedroom, 2 bath options, it is a very old 2 star hotel and if you don't have a car, probably acceptable, but downtown Burbank is a much nicer area than central Hollywood.

The Embassy Suites Glendale is also in a great area and a lot nicer than the Orchid Suites.

There's an extended Stay inn on Glenoaks between Burbank and Glendale that might have large suites. But don't base your budget on what you're paying in Anaheim. Anaheim accomodations are generally at least 30% lower than around the Los Angeles area....especially for the suite-style rooms which are few and far between up there.

If you're staying in Anaheim for Disney, you could easily do Universal from there as a day trip. Just do it on Saturday or Sunday when the traffic will be lighter. Or, if a weekday, leave Anaheim around 10:15am and don't plan on leaving Universal until 8pm or so.
