3 Days in LA on a tight budget.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be in LA for 3 days. Just me, all on my own.

Arriving 20th June 9am

Departing 23rd June 6am

I'm trying to find a reasonable hotel which

a) Close to airport or free / reasonable transport to airport for early departure trip.

b) Free or reasonable internet access.

Budget <$500 for 3 nights. Tough I know..

Things I want to do.

I would love to hire a push bike and ride the beaches as far as I can.

Any suggestions on places to stay or things to do?

Cheers.

What is a push bike? Is that a bicycle?

Single rooms are available for $130 + tax = about $150/night. The hotel lends bicycles (we don't call them 'push bikes') at no cost, along with other things for enjoying the beach. You'd have to take a taxi to/from the airport (there is no shuttle bus) but the room is below your budget and the bikes are free so paying $20-$25 each way (including tip) should fit into your budget.

Yeah sorry about the aussie lingo. Thats a great find thanks HopSkipJump!

Can I ask what is catching a cab from there like on a Sunday do you think? If I need to be at the airport at 4:30am? Can you pre-book cabs?

R055C0: Welcome to TripAdvisor and the LA forum! Never apologize for Aussie lingo; I love learning new words and phrases!

Yes, you can pre-book a cab, it is the way we do things around here (very few places to hail a cab; in most cases, you need to call for one). You will have no problems getting back to the airport at that hour of a Sunday morning.

Have fun!

Yes, you'll be able to pre-book a cab, no problem. The staff at the Sea View should be able to do this for you or at least give you the phone number to call. To be safe, when you get a taxi from LAX to the hotel, have the cab driver give you a card for his/her taxi company, that way you'll have a phone number to call the night before and book the taxi.

In Manhattan Beach, we use South Bay Yellow Cab to get to LAX. Just call them the day before you leave and they will be right on time. We've been picked up at 3:30 am, but they run 24/7 so you will have no problem getting an early pick up. They won't knock on your motel door, so make arrangements what corner you will be waiting at.

When you arrive at LAX, just walk out of baggage claim and get in the taxi line, and take the next cab to the Sea View Inn. Make sure the driver turns on Rosecrans off Sepulveda Blvd.

Here is a video of Manhattan Beach, so that you can see a mile south on the bike path is the MB Pier, and lots of Pubs and restaurants at the base.

If the Sea View is booked, try the Crimson, Seahorse or Wave hotel. Will be in our price range, but not free bikes.

The Sea View is great for Manhattan Beach and sure beats anything by the airport.

The cheapest, but still reasonably fast way to get to Hollywood is probably to get back to LAX, ride the Flyaway Bus ($7?) to Union Station in Downtown LA and then take the Red Line subway ($2.50?) to Hollywood and Highland. Reverse to come back.
