Art Galleries

Hi just wondering if anyone could suggest some good Art Galleries that I could take a bunch of keen high school art students to? Thanks

What part of town? When? LA is filled with art galleries, some are in clusters, some are spread out. There are many museums, as well, are you taking them to our major art museums already?

I would be sure to do a few of the larger art museums in the area:

LA County Museum of Art (LACMA)

Museum of Modern Art (MOCA)

Getty Center

Getty Villa

Norton Simon Museum

Hammer Museum

After that, ACE Gallery has a couple of different locations and they're quite large. Beyond that, the areas with some concentrations of galleries include Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, Main St. in Santa Monica, Bergamont Station in Santa Monica, Robertson Blvd. between San Vicente and Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills, and on both La Cienega Blvd. and Washington Blvd. where those streets intersect.

Chinatown adjacent to downtown L.A. (The hours of these galleries are limited and often hard to ascertain in advance but just the experience of walking through Chinatown makes it worth it).

MachThree has given you a very good list to get started with.

Another one to add would be the California Science Center in Exposition Park, right across from USC.

They may enjoy the neat exhibits there which now include an actual Space Shuttle. Afterwards they may want to get a taste of an American university by walking around the USC campus and maybe having a lunch there.
