Union station to sheraton gateway

We would like to find out what is the best way to get from Union Station to Sheraton Gateway at LAX, we are travleing up from San Diego to LA by rail.. We are looking for a quick way for this and also if anyone has any idea of prices ie taxi / metro / bus etcl. This is our first time in LA and first time posting onto the forum.

Thanks

What is the purpose of your visit to the Sheraton Gateway Hotel? Are you staying there for the duration of your trip? Or are you merely stopping for the night before catching your flight?

There is the LAX Flyaway Shuttle from Union Station. Fare is $7.

The simplest way would be to take the FlyAway bus as suggested to the LAX terminals and then get the hotel's shuttle bus from the terminals to the hotel - or if you're up for a walk of about 1/2 mile you can just exit the FlyAway at the first set of terminals and walk to the hotel. A taxi from Union Station directly to the hotel is likely to be around $50.

As the others said, Flyaway bus from Union Station to LAX, get off at any terminal, I'd say get off at the last one, Terminal 7/8 so you don't have to ride the hotel shuttle bus past all the other terminals.

The quickest way would be to hire a car and drive from SD to LAX (about 2-1/2 hours). But, I'm guessing that you've already purchased your rail tickets or you'd rather not drive.

That said, the second-quickest method would be to take the train as far as Anaheim and get off there (rather than continue on to Union Station). If you've already purchased tickets to Union Station, you'd be forfeiting some fare, of course. At Union Station, take a 6 or 7 minute taxi ride to Disneyland Hotel ($15 including tip) and catch the Disneyland Express Bus to LAX. You haven't told us how many of you are traveling so I can't tell you the total fare for this conveyance.

The Union Station Flyaway Bus could be as quick as the transfer method I've described (or a little bit longer -- it has to do with what time the train arrives at Union Station since the Flyaway, leaves on the hour and the 1/2 hour and you'll need a few minutes to transfer from the rail platform to the bus plaza behind the stadium.

Of course, the Flyaway method is only 2 steps whereas the Disneyland Express bus method is 3 steps but you didn't ask for the simplest route; you asked for the quickest.

Another possibility is to take the train to Anaheim and connect at the station with a 'shared van' from supershuttle.com or redvans.com. This would save you the taxi ride but if there are only 2 of you traveling, the van will make 2 or 3 more stops to pick up additional passengers (since the vans carry either 7 or 9 passengers). If there are 4 or more of you, then the van will stop less often to pick up others.

Hi, thanks for your responses.

Our stay at Sheraton is for one overnight as we are flying out of LAX the morning but we plan to use this time in LA to do a bit of sight seeing or open top bus tour etc also. There are two adults on this trip.

Sorry, I MEANT to say (above):

When you arrive at ANAHEIM station (not UNION STATION), take a 6 or 7 minute taxi ride to the Disneyland Hotel.

bidele_11 . Can't answer your question but would like you to know that we did that SanDiego into Union Station a few years back.

We upgraded only for a few $'s more to business class on the Amtrak train (enabling us to sit in the upper bit of the carriage) and the whole journey was extremely interesting and comfortable with free coffee and danishes :-)

Thanks MJH1948.

We did look at the upgrade also but you have sold it to us with the danishes! lol

The Sheraton Gateway is at LAX, HSJ is obviously confused with some other thread, it is not in Anaheim.

The taxi or a Flyaway to LAX. The Sheraton shuttles at LAX are fairly frequent, about ev 15 minutes.

No, HSJ is talking about taking the Amtrak to the Anaheim (or Fullerton) Train Station, and then a taxi (about $25 plus tip) to the Disneyland Hotel.

And then transfer to the Disneyland Express Airport Bus to LAX.

This avoids the longer train trip to Union Station, and then LAX Flyaway bus.

The option using the Disneyland Express is designed to save time.
