Will you have a car? What general types of things interest you? The Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area has 100s of attractions. Disneyland (which is not in the city nor county of Los Angeles) is just one of those. Here are some of the others: 1. Museums (100+ of them) -- varying from Broadcasting to "Tar Pits" to Automobiles to Art to Science to, well, you get the idea. 2. Historical Monuments 3. Ethnic Neighborhoods (L.A. has 8 official languages that all of our election materials must be printed in. They include Korean, Farsi (Persian) and Tagalog (Filipino) 4. Athletic pursuits (hiking, surfing lessons, sailing, etc, etc). 5. Celebrity-spotting 6. Architecture 7. Shopping 8. Movie Studio Tours 9. Concerts (indoors and out) 10. Griffith Park (one of the largest urban parks in the U.S.). etc, etc, etc, etc, etc Take a look at our FAQs section (at the top of the TOPIC LIST) and acquaint yourself with the NEIGHBORHOODS of Los Angeles and environs. Take a look at the official website of Los Angeles Tourism: http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/ Buy (or borrow from a library) a tour guide of Los Angeles. Good ones are by: DK Eyewitness Lets Go Fodors Frommers etc Of course, you should find a hotel IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES if you wish to tour Los Angeles. The best way to have a memorable holiday is to do some research and then ask specific questions about what you find. We cannot fashion an unforgettable holiday for you. We can only advise you once you've gained some familiarity about our region.

Got 4 days in Howard Jhonson resort and main Idea is to see disney, Universal studio, sandiago Zoo and a bit of city, as I said I can add another 2 days to stay else where. Is it enough? I intend to hire a car after 3rd day. What is the best way to get tickets for Disney, etc?

Check out expedia they had ok prices for disneyland or else you can buy them direct through Howard Johnson. We are going with our two children end of September and we are counting down!

When are you planning to travel? You will want to spend at least 2 full days in DL. If you arrive on a day when DL is open late you will get to spend time there the day you arrive. Allow 2 hours to get through immigration & to Anaheim. You will be able to do a day trip to San Diego from Anaheim, but for Universal Studios it would be best to move to a hotel in Los Angeles, as suggested above. I found the Lonely Planet city encounter for LA very helpful, but all the books listed above are good. A guide book will help you decide what interests you most. You can order Disney tickets online from the Disney website: …go.com/disneyland/en_US/home/home… Note that the ticket prices are going up tomorrow, so if you are travelling this year then order them now. See Darkbeers earlier post.

Great information, thanks and we will leave Auckland on 26th of sep. I am trying to get as much info as possible for it and thanks guys at least I know where to look for.
|
The 26th is a Friday, so DL will be open late. If you get the 3 day park hopper you can go on the Friday & Saturday, then go to San Diego on the Sunday, then back to DL on the Monday. The Disney site I linked to will give you info on opening hours etc.
