Travel from LAX to Lancaster for 26th August

We are 2 senior travellers from Australia trying to find a way to travel by public transport from LAX to Lancaster for an event on 26th August. We are flying in from San Francisco. Haven't booked this flight yet as not sure of travel time to Lancaster and if able to even get there. I have contacted metrolink, greyhound, hotels in Lancaster etc without any success.

Have had one reply immediately in travel forum [america site]from a past resident of Lancaster and will check out his welcome suggestion.

Can anyone assist us further with this as we really want to go to Lancaster for the pro-bull riding which we love watching every week in Ausssie-land.

Lancaster is exactly 90 minutes from Los Angeles by car. I don't know of any way to get there, except by car.

You could take Antelope Valley Airport Express, scheduled for an hour and 45 minutes from LAX to Lancaster. http://antelopeexpress.com/

To Wanderer -thankyou so much, as even with all my searching I had not found this shuttle service. Will definately use this to get to Lancaster as my husband doesn't want to drive on what he considers the wrong side of the road. Had a bad experience in Las Vegas a couple of years ago so no more driving. Thank goodness as it made me a nervous wreck anyway. Have checked out your link and am now co-ordinating flight arrival times with the shuttle service. Thanks again as we are reallly keen to finish fulfiling our wish list in your wonderful country. This trip we are off to Dallas first to see Johnny Mathis and visist President Kennedy's memorial museum, then to San Fran to see the golden gate bridge, Pro-bull riding in Lancaster, Disneyland, Las Vegas, a tour of the Canyonlands and a cruise from LA to Australia. All easy to arrange except the Lancaster leg!!

Metrolink commuter passenger rail service runs throughout Southern California and on the Antelope Valley line, with stops in Vincent Grade/Acton, Palmdale, and Lancaster. Here's the link: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/

Greyhound Lines runs scheduled passenger service to Palmdale and Mojave. Here's the link: http://www.greyhound.com/ and the Palmdale station page: greyhound.com/en/locations/locations.aspx…

Just had an unfortunate experience with Antelope Valley Express. Had expected our son could use shuttle for mid-morning flight out of LAX. Viewed website as did 38 year old tech savvy son and surmised that he could catch 6:45 a.m. shuttle. Were in company of several locals who had used shuttle in past and who said "you don't need reservations, just show up." Checked times again, but failed to see the very small type that recommended reservations on schedule page of website. Got there at 6:20 a.m. to find that shuttle was fully booked. Were told that only real option was to drive to LAX --- lady there that morning said she thought that we were too late for Metrolink train that might have gotten him to LAX in time. She did say that we could wait 25 minutes to see if anyone from first stop (Lancaster) was "no show" but that all her Palmdale passengers had checked in. But she did not offer to call over to Lancaster to inquire whether they already knew of "no show."

We hopped in car to begin drive since the longer we delayed, the worse rush hour traffic would be. We called local relatives who suggested the Van Nuys Fly Away shuttle in the San Fernando Valley which would save about half the drive. Got there and our son finished trip to LAX for a mere $8 (versus the $53 of the A.V. Express). We ALL went back to look at the website to see how we had overlooked need for reservations and found that reservations are mentioned a total of 3 times (including the reservations page itself)and ALWAYS IN EXTREMELY SMALL TYPE. There is no mention on home page, nothing on Fares page or departure and arrival locations page or on general info page. There is ONE LINE on the reservations page, one question in FAQs and one line on the page entitled "LAX Shuttle". However, each mention is ¼ the size of other info on the pages.

We were extremely disappointed in the info as presented on their website and even more unhappy with the lack of help we got from the woman at the front desk. She undoubtedly knew of the Van Nuys Fly Away and didn't mention it to us as a possibility even after we explained that we had expected to drop off our son and then head in the opposite direction to drive home to Northern California.

Upshot: MAKE A RESERVATION!

One option would be to take the Metro to LA Union Station (g shuttle to green line to blue line to red/purple line, or g shuttle to green line to silver line busway) or to take a LAX flyaway bus to LA Union Station. From there, you could take a Metrolink Commuter Rail Antelope Valley Line train to Lancaster. Traveling via LA Union Station would give you a chance to spend a few hours in Downtown Los Angeles.
