Distance / time between each desert city

Hi just wondering if you could advise on the following:

1) the distance and how long it takes to drive between each of the desert cities.

Cathedral City

Desert Hot Springs

indian Wells

Indio

La Quinta

Palm Springs

Rancho Mirage

2) which one of the cities is best to stay in for a couple in their late 20s/early 30s who love nice hotels, good restaurants, wine and nightlife but also like good scenery and sightseeing

3) what will the weather be like in the first week of november?will it be hot?

Any help will be much appreciated :-)

Hi,

Desert Hot Springs is separated from the other towns on your list by the I-10 freeway. I'd leave that out of the mix for now.

The other towns are all in a row starting with Palm Springs, then Cathedral City and on to the others on your list with La Quinta being the last one.

You can see locations on a map by putting a hotel name or a vacation rental address into Google. A map will appear and you can click on the map to use the get directions function or the search nearby function.

These will tell you drive times and where you can find restaurants /stores etc.

IF you use the Freeway it will take about 15min. to go from Palm Desert(for example) to Palm Springs. IF you drive along the 111 "hwy"(just a wide road not really a "highway") it will take much longer as there can be traffic!

With the exception of Desert Hot Springs, which is across Interstate 10, all those towns are lined up right after each other as you head down Hwy 111.

Palm Springs,Cathedral City,Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio.

Depending on traffic and the route you take and how many snowbirds are in town, you can get from PS to Indio in about 30 minutes or so.Unless you get out of phase with the traffic lights on 111.Then it takes forever. There are something like 100 stop lights on 111 between PS and Indio. They are numbered on white/pink/blue signs at each intersection.

You can always check google maps for time/distance between particular places you want to see.

Palm Springs would be ideal, but any of the cities, excluding Desert Hot Springs, would work. The odds are that you'll use your car to explore it all. Distance from PS to Indio is close to 20 miles, but depending on where you are going, route chosen and time of day, it could take 25 minutes or an hour.

I would probably vote for Palm Springs. Very fun to walk along Palm Canyon Drive near Baristo -- plenty of restaurants and ambiance. Also, lots of nice hotels and vacation rentals. If you are driving from LAX, it is the first desert city you will hit, making it a bit easier for your arrival. I own a vacation rental in Rancho Mirage and love the location, but for your requirements I think Palm Springs is ideal! Have a wonderful visit!!!

Oh, and the weather should be beautiful. Not hot by desert standards. Temperate. And I would estimate no more than 20 minutes on Hwy. 111 from Rancho Mirage to Palm Springs. Indio, Indian Wells and La Quinta are a bit further still.

We spend a week in Novermber in Palm Desert, and just love the weather. However, for a first visit, I think you'd like Palm Springs, in a hotel a block or two from Palm Canyon Drive, so that you can walk to the shops and restaurants, and not have to drive.

Of course, most of the area sites are no more than a half hour away, so you'll be able to see a lot.

Yes, when in Palm Springs we always stay at the Chase, a block from the heart of PS. You can choose a reg. room, one with a kitchen, etc. They have a wonderful little breakfast and serve hot cookies each afternoon. Free parking.
