staying in isla vista

hi, we are 3 irish girls who will be in the santa barbara/isla vista area from 1-17 july 2009. we are on a strict budget and have been looking up accomodation in isla vista as it seems cheaper and where a lot of young irish people stay when they're over there working. However a lot of the rentals are only available for the entire summer as they are being sublet by UCSB students. Does anyone have any recommendations for us? We would pefer not to spend more than $25 a night....this might be a bit optimistic! thanks a mill

In that price range, your best bet may be the hostel in Santa Barbara. Looks like rates are running $30/night per person ($90 between the 3 of you) or $98 + tax for a private room for 3). See http://www.sbhostel.com for details.

Although located on the south side of the train station rather than on the north (downtown) side, the hostel is still central to more things than Isla Vista is.

thanks for that, we've also been looking at the hacienda motel as another girl might be joining us and we can get a room with two double beds and a kitchenette....do you know if the bus service between isla vista and santa barbara is frequent? i suppose we're really looking to have the best of both worlds - socialising in isla vista and relaxing in santa barbara!
