Death Valley to Fresno Route

My wife and I are doing a fly-drive by car from Denver to San Francisco (late June 2013) re-visiting some of our favourite places including Moab, Monument Valley, Death Valley etc.

We want to travel from Death Valley to Fresno to visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon but do not want to travel up to the Tioga Pass.

Google Maps suggests going south on the 395 and picking up the 178 to Bakersfield.

However there is an alternative route off the 178 at Isabella Lake taking the 155 west.

Is this a more scenic route or do you have any better suggestions?

We are used to driving in the USA and are really looking forward to our holiday.

Many thanks

This alternate is extremely steep and twisty. It is a bìt shorter than going thru Bakersfield but will take longer.

The most scenic stretch is along Lake Isabella and the Kern River. You won't miss anything by not taking 155.

Hi Frisco Roadrunner

Many thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.

We will give the 155 a miss
