This is for the die-hard "Redheads" out there since they will follow the Red Rocker anywhere.

Cabo Wabo Cantina opened today in Fresno.

For those who don't know, Cabo Wabo is Sammy Hagar's (formerly with the band Van Halen) cantina. He opened the first Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas, the second is in South Lake Tahoe, and the third is now in Fresno.

Sammy is rumored to perform in Fresno next month but no date is announced yet. Aaron Hagar is supposed to play in the next few days, the Cabo Uno band will come up from Mexico soon, and Michael Anthony is expected next week.

Cabo Wabo is near the intersection of Cedar and Ashlan (1 mile south of Fresno State), in the Granite Park complex. Besides Cabo Wabo there is a sports bar and an Irish pub. A southern blues-themed restaurant/bar will open next month followed by a Russian-themed steakhouse/ice vodka bar. A small amusement park will open in the spring.

Just an update.

Sammy Hagar has confirmed that he will perform at the Fresno Cabo Wabo on October 28 and 29. He plans on debuting some songs from the new album.

The shows are scheduled to be free with first-come first-served admission.

Hense the name cantina. Cabo Wabo is a place to go relax, have a few drinks, enjoy yourself, and Not time the F***ing servers. The fact that you took the time to search out some website to post the Result of your "serve me now" and rude behavior, to try to show off your imaginary authority in front of your 8 co-worker says a little about the type of person you are. So thank you server Katy, for keeping Cabo Wabo a place for Everyone to come, take off that tie/hardhat, relax, enjoy good music, have a few drinks, and not have to worry about those uptight, panties in a bunch coworkers we all have to work with everyday. I have enjoyed Cabo Wabo-Cabo, Tahoe, and I'm thrilled to have one here in Fresno.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 7, 2008) – Entrepreneur and rock ‘n roll hall of famer Sammy Hagar responded to issues, today, presented by local news media regarding the newly opened Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno, California; stating that the issues are related to a company that has licensed the Cabo Wabo name and that he is not responsible for the actions or inactions of that licensee.

“Given the controversies reported in media surrounding the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno, I want to be very clear on one point -- the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Fresno is not owned or run by me or anyone associated with the Cabo Wabo organization,” stated Hagar. “Everyone in Fresno should be aware that the restaurant is owned and operated by a licensee, Fresno Rock Taco, LLC, which is controlled by Milton Barbis. I am in no way associated with the Granite Park development project.”

“Through our licensing agreement, I have granted the use of the Cabo Wabo name and logo, as well as my name and image to Fresno Rock Taco, LLC. If Mr. Barbis cannot meet the established guidelines for use of those trademarks, I am well within my rights to cancel the contract with his company. I hope I do not have to take such drastic actions as I would like the community of Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley to enjoy Cabo Wabo, but not at the expense of those who have worked to bring this to the area,” concluded Hagar.

“I understand that contractors involved in the Cabo Wabo Cantina project claim they have not been paid for work, and, frankly, I cannot understand how this could be possible given that Cabo Wabo is a huge success but, despite that, I am not happy with what I have been hearing,” continued Hagar. “I pride myself in being true to my fans and associating my name with quality business ventures. For all those parties involved, I truly hope that the issues at hand can be resolved quickly and that the Cabo Wabo patrons will not be negatively impacted. Nothing is more important to me than protecting the fans who have embraced me for more than 40 years in the music business.”

Hagar entered into the licensing agreement with Fresno Rock Taco LLC on December 7, 2006. The Cabo Wabo Cantina officially opened its doors on August 29, 2008. Last week, Sammy Hagar played a free concert at the venue for nearly 1,000 Fresno-area fans

Things were inconsistent in the first few months after opening. Although some have complained about long waits and poor service, I have heard others who say they had a great time and good service.

So it is hard to say whether it was just opening problems that needed to be worked out or a long term problem.

The post about Sammy Hagar's comments is in response to some constuction contractors attempting to get him to pay them for work even though he only licensed the cantina name and style to someone else. I hope it gets resolved soon but at the same time I wonder how much the banking crisis has slowed getting loans.

It is sometimes difficult to get a true handle on some things through these forums, there is always some one who complains about somewhere that has never had a negative comment before, likewise we have stayed at some hotels & had a great time whereas nobody else seems to have had a good word for them.

Very true.

And also notice how many of these posts are from names that have only posted 1 time on this thread and never commented about anything or any place else on these boards.

If you are looking for things to do or places to eat around Fresno, I can suggest some more for you.

For example, one place getting diners from not only this area but also the Bay Area and Southern California is Hunan.

Hunan's chef/owner used to be the executive chef at the Grand Hotel Beijing. He came to the states and worked for a while in the San Francisco area before moving to Fresno.

Hunan serves Sichuan, but the chef is renowned as a master of the style. Food lovers have been organizing trips to Fresno to eat there. Do a search and you will probably find more info.

Yes you smell a rat when,as in the case of a superb hotel we have used in Ireland a number of times, suddenly gets a scathing review slamming it's rude staff & unproffessional behaviour & complains of being refused bar service & being thrown out,you can guess what comes next,a reply not only from the hotel manager but also the guy who had been giving the party that night to the effect that this fella had too much to drink, became abusive & was asked to leave by both the manager & the party host, just may have had an axe to grind don't you think, these reviews can sometimes be quite damaging.

Thanks for the offer of help re-Fresno,I'll know soon after Christmas whether or not that is where we are going & I'll be sure to post on here, thanks!

Hunan's is very good, we have been several times and celebrated my husband's and my dad's birthday here in September, everyone raved about the food here! I especially love the Buttercream Shrimp with Strawberries and the Smoked Tea Duck, pretty good Dan Dan noodles also! :)
